Did you know there are different methods to dog training?
In our classes and lessons, we go over several different methods you can use to communicate with your dog.
One of our favorites is called "capturing". In this private lesson, Abby waited for this handsome pup to lay down. Once he did, she clicked and treated him. It only took a few minutes and he was thinking through how to get the treat and offering this beautiful down!
Who will YOUR dog follow?
Trainers Abby and Nicole took their pups out for a little challenge..
The idea is that you have two people and you each run opposite directions and see who your dog chooses to follow.
Looks like we have a dog swap! π
Try it out and share your videos with us! (Please only try this in a fenced in area! Especially with it being so close to a particularly noisy holiday.)
Sometimes, our dogs can be a liiiiittle excited to get out of the door. It seems cute when they're tiny fluffy puppies... not as cute when they're a fully grown dog bulldozing their way out the door. π
This is why one of the foundational skills we teach is to wait calmly when the door is opened. It can save both you and your pup a lot of grief at the start of walk time.
Check out this beautiful "Wait" exercise, performed not by one of us, but by our clients!
"Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step." -Lao Tzu
When we first started private lessons with βοΈ Sunny and her family, she LOVED -- and I mean LOVED -- the sound of her own voice when seeing other people and dogs outside of her home. With some persistence, patience, and consistency, her family has worked with her to where she is getting closer to enjoying a calm walk outdoors.
This didn't happen overnight. It took a few weeks of working together as team, one step at a time.
Feeling overwhelmed with some problem behaviors? Shoot us an email π» or give us a call βοΈ and let's see if we can help design a plan to get you and your pup where you want to be.
Something about that 90Β° weather has made us fans of.. well, fans. π€ͺ
Remember to keep your pup cool as we head into the weekend! If your dog isn't inclined to lay in front of a fan, here are some tips:
- Offer fresh water frequently.
- Freeze your dog's stuffed Kong toy for a pupsicle treat! π§
It's Fri-Yay, y'all! βοΈ
As we prep for an exciting summer weekend, here's a tip to help your beloved pup "chill" out.
πΎ Train a settle command! Teaching a puppy or rambunctious dog the skill of relaxation can be daunting--but our trainers can help you through it.
Here we see Jade the Labradoodle taking her first steps toward settling with trainer Nicole. Nice work, Jade!
