Have you ever thought about this?
In 100 years like in 2123 we will all be buried with our relatives and friends.
Strangers will live in our homes we fought so hard to build, and they will own everything we have today. All our possessions will be unknown and unborn, including the car we spent a fortune on, and will probably be scrap, preferably in the hands of an unknown collector.
Our descendants will hardly or hardly know who we were, nor will they remember us. How many of us know our grandfather's father?
After we die, we will be remembered for a few more years, then we are just a portrait on someone's bookshelf, and a few years later our history, photos and deeds disappear in history's oblivion. We won't even be memories.
If we paused one day to analyse these questions, perhaps we would understand how ignorant and weak the dream to achieve it all was.
If we could only think about this, surely our approaches, our thoughts would change, we would be different people.
Always having more, no time for what's really valuable in this life. I'd change all this to live and enjoy the walks I've never taken, these hugs I didn't give, these kisses for our children and our loved ones, these jokes we didn't have time for. Those would certainly be the most beautiful moments to remember, after all they would fill our lives with joy.
And some of us waste it day after day with greed, selfishness and intolerance.
Every minute of life is priceless and will never be repeated, so take time to enjoy, be grateful for, and celebrate your existence.

Spring is quickly approaching, and that means time for Spring vet work! Are you as ready for Spring as these three adorable patients are? With the help of Hot Fudge Sundae, Dreamsicle, and Impress, we wanted to provide some tips as you prepare for your horse’s care.

**Plan Ahead** We know how tough it can be to fit in Coggins tests, spring vaccinations, and dental floats prior to show season and trail riding weather. Please plan by scheduling your horse’s routine care appointment well in advance of your planned equine activities. With many clients needing attention this time of year, our appointment calendar fills up quickly!

**Be Prepared** Please have any pertinent information for Coggins tests and Health Certificates for travel ready and available at the time of the appointment. If you are not sure what information you will need, please contact our office to find out.

**Be Proactive** Despite a busy appointment schedule, emergency care remains a priority. If you have an emergency or are unsure if you have an emergency, please contact the veterinarian on call (daytime or after hours) or the office (daytime hours only) so that we can help determine how quickly your horse needs to be seen. The sooner we know of a potential emergency, the sooner we can address it!

Thank you for your cooperation. As always, if you have any questions, please contact our office during regular business hours.

Johnson Equine goes curling!! Yesterday, our team spent the afternoon learning how to curl from the experts. Established in 1921, the Wauwatosa Curling Club has around 350-375 members each year, including our very own Dr. Johnson!

Thank you to Allen and Dr Johnson for patiently sharing your knowledge, while we found our footing on the ice. We may need a few more training sessions before we are ready for a Bonspiel (curling tournament)...

Thank you to Matt with Boehringer Ingelheim for supporting the outing and joining in on the fun!

One of our lovely clients shared this excellent article with us, and we would like to share it with the rest of you. The article addresses the difficulties facing equine veterinarians today and how everyone in the equine industry can help to support each other for the benefit of the horses.

We at Johnson Equine Veterinary Services may not say it enough, but we would like to follow through on a tip from this article and express our gratitude. Thank you to all our clients for being kind and respectful, even during difficult emergency situations. We appreciate you and the love you have for your horse!

Your veterinarian plays an invaluable role in the lives of the horses you know and love—they possibly even care for your neighbors’ and friends’ horses too! Equine veterinarians are the heroes who travel out to barns in the middle of the night to care for a horse that’s experiencing colic or...

Last week, Dr. Roska and veterinary assistant, Brooke, tended to this patient, after he suffered trauma to his right eye while outside in the paddock. On the ophthalmic examination, it was determined that there was a puncture or laceration to the globe of the eye that extended through the layers of the cornea into the interior of the eye (anterior chamber). Unfortunately, when this occurs, it causes a significant amount of pain for the horse and there is no treatment available to restore vision or maintain function of the eye. Therefore, a surgical procedure to remove the eye (enucleation) was recommended. This surgery was performed under standing, intravenous sedation with local nerve blocks administered to temporarily take feeling away from the structures involved in surgery. Post-operative care has included pain medication, antimicrobial medication, and bandage changes to monitor the incision site. This happy patient is healing well and is scheduled for suture removal next week!
