Meet Jaque!

Jaque is a male, Merle Australian Shepard. He is estimated around 3 years old, with a full flowing Aussie coat. Jaque came into the shelter as a stray who was never claimed. After some needed TLC he is now a much healthier, more vibrant version of himself. Jaque can be weary of new scenarios, but as long as he can sit next to you (or in your lap) he warms up quickly.

It’s that time again, the MCAC artists are hard at work! This time around their artwork will be raffled off with a signed picture of them to five of you lucky supporters. 🐾
To enter the raffle , stop by Kaskaskia Valley Animal Hospital in Sullivan to view the paintings and purchase tickets. They will be sold 1 for $1 or 6 for $5. Winners will be drawn on august 25. Five winners will go home with a painting and autographed photo from a canine resident here at the pound! 🐾🦴🐾🦴🐾

Bath day at the pound!

Our three adoptable dogs Dusty, Ollie, and Freddy, and even our resident stray all took soapy sudsy baths this evening. Our adoptable dogs all played in the yard while they each took a turn being scrubbed. Our stray especially enjoyed his spa day, being relieved from some pretty severe matting and itchy skin.

These kittens are ready for their forever homes!

Introducing Motza (female), Sandler (male), Scotch (male), and Bourbon (male).

These babies are all around 10-12 weeks old, and they are chalk full of kitten energy. Motza and Sandler were both brought in as stray kittens that needed a soft bed and some TLC. Bourbon and Scotch are brothers that were relinquished to us when their owner could not handle them any more.

Our sweet Delta Dawn received her immiticide, this is the second step in ridding her of heartworms. For the last month she has been on an antibiotic that kills the bacteria that the worms thrive on. This weakens them enough for the injection to kill them off.
This means Delta has reached what is arguably the most dangerous part of her treatment. This is because the adult heartworms (which can be up to 14” long) are dying off and can potentially block blood flow within the heart and major blood vessels.
Delta starts her kennel rest today to ensure she is staying calm and healing well. Finally, in about a month she will get her final topical treatment to kill off any baby heartworms (microfilaria).

Kitten season has come through this year right on schedule. We currently have Motza (female tabby), and Sandler (orange male), keeping our cat ward lively. These two hooligans are ruling our roost until they are big enough to have their spay and neuter appointments. After that they will be ready for their new homes!

Adoptable Cheddar was totally shocked to meet her mini-me Sandler. Cheddar has done great helping socialize the babies this year. This spunky kitten will be up for adoption after he is neutered, until then he’ll be here to keep Cheddar on her toes until she finds her forever home.

Dusty and Ollie broke out for the day to make an appearance at the American Legion post 68 Fourth of July parade!

All of the love and attention all of you beautiful attendees gave these boys is worth more than any donation could buy.
The experience, exposure, and exercise is exactly what these pups need to find their forever homes. At Moultrie County Animal Control we strive to find these animals permanent homes. Rather than being traded around from house to house, especially when so many already have been.
So from the bottom of our hearts, thank you all, so much, for your kindness and appreciation for these boys today. Your support keeps adoptions high, and morale even higher.

Introducing Cheddar!

Cheddar is a female, shorthair, orange tabby cat. The best way to describe Chedder is that she is 100% an orange cat. She has every bit of chatty, goofy, and aloof energy that you could hope for. She does better than most with new cats and will always greet you when you enter the cat ward. Cheddar is almost three years old, and was relinquished to us when her owner could no longer care for her.

We have had many inquiries about our resident German Shepard, Delta. We are sorry to say that after her stray hold this beautiful girl tested positive for heartworm disease. Heart worms are fatal when not treated, and unfortunately require a difficult and lengthy treatment. So while Delta is receiving her much needed medical care, we will not be accepting applications for her. We will keep you updated come what may. Please keep our sweet Delta Dawn in your thoughts and prayers.

Introducing Ollie!!

Ollie is a 2 year old pit bull mix. He is 64lbs of joy, love, and play. Ollie was surrendered when his owner could no longer care for him. The adorable spot on his forehead is like a beacon to endless love and cuddles.
Ollie loves his food, so a slow feeder at meal time will help keep him safe.
