Dutch began working with horses very early on in life, starting as a child showing in Western Pleasure up through his high school years. His collegiate studies earned him a BS in Equine Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. Throughout his college career, he focused on equine behavior, breeding, and training. He prepped them for sales, presented ISR Oldenburg at breed insp

ections, and presented young warmbloods in hand and under saddle at sport horse auctions. Following graduation, he did extensive research on equine COPD and developing an EBC (Equine Breath Condensate) for horses. In addition to his extensive knowledge in equine breeding and training, Dutch also worked as an ER Vet Tech. Upon graduation, Dutch focused on sport horses, showing at breed shows throughout the country including dressage at Devon. Following his years with the warmbloods, he transitioned back to his Western Pleasure roots in 2007, partnering with Merry Norton Sharp to build Twilight Farms Horse Training LLC in Winter Garden, FL where he works to this day. Dutch trains primarily in the Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle but welcomes all disciplines. His training methods focus on teaching horses to understand the job expected of them and to use their body properly, which are both fundamental to all riding styles. He trains his human students in both general horsemanship on the ground and proper riding technique in the saddle, focusing on them learning "feel" and effectively communicating with their horse. In his own words...

"I believe it is not our horses' job to get along with us, but our job to get along with them. Far too often we get tunnel vision, hyper focused on our training, and in turn we forget the most important factor when it comes to our horses, their mental health. Without this, we can never achieve the level of communication or the results in the show ring we desire. What matters to me the most is that my horses are confident, respectful, and, above all, content."

A HUGE congratulations to Kristin/Sandra Farris and Irish Magnolias Black Magic. I have had the pleasure of training this magnificent stallion for the past year and a half. He has won the hearts of myself and all those that have surrounded him. And just when I feel this horse has given myself and his owners every ounce of his kind soul, he steps it up another notch. Due to an influx of training horses I was unable to attend the week long feathered horse classic horse show. We prepared accordingly and Kristin and magic literally practiced through wind and rain, running through their trail courses repeatedly, and working on getting that perfect consistent movement as they traveled around the arena.

An extremely difficult decision on my part, loading Magic on the trailer and sending a stallion off to a show with his amateur owner is something I could never see doing. That being said, Magic is an anomaly, a once in a lifetime stallion. To say I trust, truly respect and love him is an understatement. And the gravity of sending him to a show without my guidance, showing with a catch rider and his amateur owner is by no means lost on me. What this horse did this past week is nothing short of phenomenal, and proves who he is at his core; A kind hearted, trustworthy, athletic stallion.
For anyone reading this, that may be looking for a stallion service for their gypsy mare, and or breeding for a gypsy cross I say look no further. Magic has free flowing, balanced movement from behind that travels right through his shoulders, and has an otherworldly temperament. Megan Watier is Performance Stock Horses first individual to take advantage of our working student program. She has fit into our barn family so well and we absolutely love having her around! She is a hard worker and talented horsewomen in the making. She and Ava are having great rides this summer and I can’t wait to see how far they will come.
Ava is my 3yr old mare and is by far one of the quietest horses I have ever worked with. She has a natural, lofty 12 foot stride and I can’t wait to start her over fences NEXT week!!! Megan is learning how I like brining along a young hunter prospect. And I really think this mare is a talented hunter in the making and I am so excited Megan is along for the journey!

Performace Stock Horses is proud to offer our first of many equine apparel items for purchase. A short sleeve unisex performace shirt with our logo embossed on the front and our training creed listed down the back.

As a young teenager I unfortunately lost my father to cancer. And my mother was left with the financial burden of trying to not only pay for my horse’s board, but also carried the constant worry of a medical emergency coming along that we were just not able to afford. This in turn lead to the excruciating decision to sell my gelding.

With that being said, Equine Performance Innovative Center (EPIC) equine hospital in Ocala, Florida has graciously agreed to let Performance Stock Horses LLC start an angel fund. This account will be dedicated to helping those families or individuals that have fallen on hard times and don’t have the means to afford medications or procedures for their beloved horse. We will be donating $5.00 from every shirt sold to this fund to help support our local equine community. Shirts will be sold for $27.00, and we will be taking preorders as of today.

Had a Great day with Totally Zen (aka Tilly) a 3yr old warmblood mare that was sent to me to get broke to ride a little less than 90 days ago. Tilly is 30 days undersaddle, 5th ride with me in arena, and first ride with owner! So much ridability with this mare! I Focused a lot on ground driving and started her slowly. She has such a great mind and work ethic for such a young mare. Today was the owners first ride and it couldn’t have gone better. Thank you so much Raquel Heiss for trusting me with this talented mare. I was so happy to watch you to ride around the arena and get along so well! You rode her brilliantly, and I can’t wait to follow her career as a dressage horse ♥️

Great show this weekend with Multiple circuit champions and High point as well! It was a so nice to see classes with big numbers, we didn’t even show the trail until 10pm on Friday! Thank You Amanda Williams-Palmer for putting on a fantastic show. I know it’s long days for the competitors, and even longer days for you. I know your job can be a thankless one at times, and I just want to personally thank you. Congrats to Lindsay Latimer and All In My Pocket for multiple wins in the Novice Hunter Undersaddle. Merry Sharp and Fleets Only, 2nd in showmanship and 1st under 5 judges in the novice trail winning the circuit champion. Karen Oswald and No Doubt It’s Cash for multiple circuit champions. Wins in the western pleasure and 3rd and 4th places in their debut in Trail, which to me was so impressive to watch. Karen and Cash have never shown in trail prior to this show and this course was super tight. I was blown away by how well this pair did. And ending up overall solid pinto high point winner. And last, but certainly not least I want to congratulate Ashley Bianco and PR Remade, these two are coming from the open hunter/jumper circuit so this world is new to the both of them. They are really coming together, and I couldn’t be more proud. I can’t wait to add trail to your classes soon! And thanks to all of you above and Marilyn Bianco for helping me the entire show, it was truly a pleasure spending the weekend with all of you and your horses!

GREAT show this weekend at Gypsy Live Regional gypsy show at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, FL. Kristin Farris and I showed Southern Magnolia Irish Black Magic in halter, Western Pleasure, and Hunter Pleasure events. This stallion proved to be one of the most versatile and good-minded stallions I have ever worked with in my 25 plus years of training. He placed Top 5 in all his halter events. Kristin showed magic in the western W/J events and placed first in the horsemanship, and was Reserve Regional champion in the western pleasure! I showed Magic in the W/J/L western pleasure and was 1st and named Regional Grand Champion, I also placed first in the hunter undersaddle and Magic was awarded Regional Grand Champion in the Hunter Pleasure as well! I could not be more proud of this stallion. This is the type of gypsy we should be breeding, a stallion that is good-minded enough to go out and show with an amateur and talented enough to win the open in both the western and the English events. A big thanks to Sandy and Kristin Farris for giving me the opportunity to work with such a unique and talented horse. The two of you have added so much joy to my life, your kind hearts and appreciation for my work means a great deal to me. Kristin you were ABSOLUTELY amazing at this show, you are such a beautiful rider and to see the two of you go around that show pen as a winning team truly warmed my heart. Here’s to a great show, and a successful future 🥂

I’m so proud of Merry Sharp, and Fleets Only (Gibson). I wanted to give an update on the last two horse shows they competed in. They showed at APHA show in Clarcona, April 1st and 2nd. They earned 2nd in showmanship, 1st under both judges in the novice amateur trail and 1st and 2nd in amateur trail. They continued their winning run in trail this past weekend at the APHA show in Camden, South Carolina winning the novice amateur trail under all 4 judges and also being awarded hight point novice and circuit champion in trail. Congrats again merry and it’s so nice to see your dedication and hard work paying off ♥️

Cullen was always GIGANTIC, 17.2 hands when we had him. He always amazed me with how agile he was for being that big. He took to jumping and lead changes like he was born to do it. And in the right hands and continued education, he is now jumping courses and won 3 firsts and a second in his first time out jumping in the rookie youth working hunter!!! Videos like these of horses I started mean more to me than any first place ribbon. Congratulations to ALL and I can’t wait to see you two together in person♥️

I want to give a huge congratulations to Kathy Williams, Jennifer, and Emily Spell for doing such an amazing job with Cullen. Merry Sharp bred this 18 hand gelding and he was a pleasure to break and train. I had this video pop up in my memories from when I was first starting him over fences. Left long, but it was this day I knew he had what it took to be a hunter.
