You wouldnt guess she was 6 and he 2 😆 must be genetic.
More tandem work with River and Pajamas. They did great heeling together. I made them wait at the gate at the end of the walk and allowed Oakley to go through ahead of them and they did amazing waiting as she went through.
At the beginning of training waiting at any gate or door was a big challenge for these two pups solo let alone together. So proud of the progress they made.
Tug O War shenanigans with Camo, Oakley and River.
Pajamas just wanted to parade around and carry his toy.
One benefit to a vast majority of these dogs completing a training program with me is I know them quite well socially. We take it slow that first week or two when it comes to dog interactions but everyone often settles in enough to at least be out with my pack. And play is a part of training and being social for many when done in a balanced way.
Some get 1 on 1 with just me, some with just my pack, and some as you have likely seen get to play with a variety of dogs.
Toys are often a part of that as I encourage chase, fetch, tug. But I also have dogs who know they are not allowed to play with toys due to their tendency to get possesive which is counter productive to playful. They can still be around dogs as they play with toys, they still run and interact but it keeps their manners in line.
This skill doesnt happen overnight, again this is part of their training usually and it continues as they board with me later on. And the skill to recognize dog behaviors and work through them doesnt happen overnight for the human either. This is from years of training dogs, running daycares and boarding kennels and observing and learning. 😉
Shoot if you read all that you deserve a biscuit 😆
Thanks for trusting me with your pups 💜
Pajamas in action, he is doing well with his heel walk too. Next up is some tandem heel to prep him for walking with his sister Reese who came for training earlier.
River's walk has come along nicely. A relaxed heel isnt a herding breeds forte but she got the hang of it.
Bonus of the cold and wind returning, mud is frozen 🙌
But as usual these labs don't mind one bit
Getting out for a quick walk with the crew. Always nice to let the 4 leggers and 2 leggers explore and burn off some energy. Oakley and Camo took their buddy Shasta along for a run.
One of the big training requests of Fergus' owners was his recall. He basically acted deaf, not difficult for a terrier puppy.
We worked on this a lot this week. One of the simplest ways was by utilizing at least 1 meal every day to work for his food. As you can see he is more than happy to work for his kibbles, even with the kids.
We have tons of time to wean him off treats and food for recall. At this age its easier to just use what motivates him, he quickly became very interested in working for us, instead of taking the fun out of things by being too boring and strict.
Morning shenanigans.
Thankful to have a yard for these guys to play in, even if its already muddy 🤦♀️
Morning shenanigans, Camo doing his part to wear out Brody. 😆
At the tail end of last week I allowed Leila to attempt to play with my two. She was a bit intense, stiff, and some growling gumpy behavior when she got into the mix and got bumped.
Boy has she relaxed and softened up as we moved into week 3. She still has her stiff on guard 'tude moments but much more receptive to communication on the whole now.
Great evening walk with miss Leila. She is finally softening up and caring about my requests more readily. Good girl.
