Good news! This pretty little princess, Lady Diana, results came back and her mass was benign!! We are so happy to get that news. She is healing nicely from her surgeries and getting back to her spunky little self. Next she starts her heartworm treatment for the next few months.

Lady Diana is safely home with her foster family getting a lot of love and care. The mass was sent off for a biopsy and the vet said she is hopeful it is benign as it appeared more cyst like. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻
She is a tough little lady that is going through so much at once and we want her to have the life she deserves for many, many more years to come.
Sweet little Lady Diana made it through her surgery and is resting comfortably! We are so happy to get that news. Once we have an update from the vet we will share that information. Thank you for all of the well wishes and prayers for this little girl.

These two young little ladies were in the same breeding situation as Buster and all kept in a kennel outside.
They too are very underweight and going for a health assessment this week. They are sweet little girls and are learning their new life indoors and house training. Both need to be spayed and all health issues addressed before any adoption so they will be in foster for awhile.

Welcome Buster to WRSE! This handsome almost 3 yo little man came from a breeding situation. He was kept in an outdoor kennel with two females. He is underweight and needs to be neutered. His foster mom is working on teaching him what living inside is all about. He loves his crate and is working on house training.
He is not available for adoption at this time. Once he has been evaluated and been neutered along with any other health issues being addressed we will go through our applications on file to find the right match for him.

Sweet little Lady Di is going to have her multiple surgeries on Thursday. She is having her right eye removed due to a chronic and completely ruptured cornea, two mammary tumors to be removed and being spayed all while dealing with heartworm positive.
She needs a lot of love, healing energy and prayers sent her way.

After the multiple vet and specialist visits just in the few short days sweet little Lady Di has been with WRSE she has a list of serious health issues to be addressed. She has a ruptured cornea and blind in that right eye. The best course of action is to remove the eye. She has a mammary tumor that needs to be removed immediately along with being spayed. She is also heartworm positive. Under normal circumstances the heartworm would be treated first but unfortunately because of the mammary tumor we can’t wait to remove it as if it is the cancer they think it may be, it spreads rapidly. The heartworm make it a higher risk for anesthesia but this is her best chance for survival.
She has a long list of issues and we are going to do everything we can to get her better. She is going to need a lot of healing energy and prayers sent her way over the next several months while healing.

Westie Rescue Southeast follows a strict protocol when placing one of our rescue Westies in need of a new home:
1. An application MUST be on file by the potential adopter. Go to www.westierescuesoutheast.org and click on "Applications “ from the menu bar on the top of the Home Page.
2. Select “Adoption Application."
3. Complete the application online, be sure to initial the requirements and acknowledge adoption fee and click on "Submit" at the bottom of the digital form. Incomplete applications are automatically deleted.
4. Please understand that completing an application does NOT guarantee adoption. A very thorough decision-making process is utilized, keeping the dog's individual needs as the main contributing factor for who is chosen as the adopter.
5. An adoption fee is required which will allow the Westie Rescue Southeast to continue to help other Westies in need.
6. Due to the high number of applications received, further communication will only be with the potential adopter. We are a small organization made up of ONLY volunteers, therefore responding to each and every interested party isn’t possible.
7. Our dogs are primarily fostered in the greater Charlotte, NC and Raleigh, NC regions. Any applicant must be within a 3 hour driving window of the rescue dog. We require a home visit and meet and greet prior to any potential adoption. This does not guarantee an adoption.
Our goal is to ensure that our rescue dogs find their perfect fit for a forever home.

Welcome Fred to WRSE! He is an adorable 6 yo old boy. He came from a very loving home and his family really struggled with making the decision to rehome him. Unfortunately, he has a bit of a spicy westitude and it has proven not to be a good mix with the toddler in the home.
He will only go to an experienced westie owner home that does not have children in the home or frequently visiting children.
He isn’t available for adoption yet as we need a little time to assess his behavior, his compatibility with other dogs and his health needs.

Welcome Bobby to WRSE! This sweet 2 year old was found as a stray. He spent 12 days at the shelter and nobody came to claim him. He was severely matted, very thin and his tail appears partially docked😢. He is in great hands now and only has bright days ahead. He isn’t available for adoption at this times me but please watch our page for updates.

What a great day for a “Gotcha Day” for Ollie on National Rescue Dog Day! We are so happy for him and the Stanton family. Ollie now has Westie brother to be his forever playmate.
Tolle the senior pup, so many of you sent well wishes and donations to help, is getting better and better by the day. He is starting to act like a typical westie. He isn’t completely out of the woods yet but it is so nice seeing him feeling better.

Update on Taco(10 months old) He has now been introduced to other dogs and does well. This is great news because this opens up options for potential homes for him. We still prefer someone located in the greater Charlotte area so he can continue his progress with his trainer. A calm household with NO children or frequently visiting children. Ideally a female only home but possibly with a male that is very patient to his trust issues from his previous life. He is not a “cuddly” westie. Because he is a young dog he will be most likely a 15+year commitment. He loves toys especially fetching a ball. Sweet little Maverick (now Knox) was given clearance from the surgeon to finally be a puppy. Obviously missing one leg isn’t slowing him down and he is loving his new sister. 🥰 We are thrilled this baby has had such a happy ending to his horrific start in life. Thank you to everyone for your love and support. We couldn’t do what we do without you.
Guess who was just released from the hospital!! Now Maverick can begin a life of being loved and cared for.🥰
Our little Maverick is living up to his name. We unfortunately received more bad news this morning. When the surgeon was observing him walking on the remaining leg something didn’t look right to him. After examining him and an X-ray of the leg, they discovered his femur was broken in that leg too. The only repair possible was another surgery to add a plate and screws. We certainly weren’t happy that this wasn’t already discovered so it could have been repaired when he was in surgery yesterday but it needed to be fixed. Maverick made it through the surgery fine and is now awake. He will remain in the hospital tonight and possibly released tomorrow. We made sure they thoroughly examined and did X-rays of his entire body for any other trauma before starting the surgery today and nothing was found. Thank goodness! This will drastically change his rehabilitation time and therapy routine. A minimum of 4-6 weeks of restrictive activity 😢 He is one tough little guy with so much will to keep going and we have no doubt he will sail through his rehabilitation with flying colors. Thank you so much for all of your donations, thoughts and prayers. It really does take a westie village to help our rescue pups and we have the best village🥰
My name is Street but it should be "Sweet." I love being around people and being held by whomever has an empty lap. I love watching TV and happy to sleep in my crate at night or when I just need to be patient for my foster parents to come home. I get along well with my foster siblings although I can get a little possessive with toys and foster mom gives me "a talking to". I am house trained and love to do zoomies in the backyard. I am leash trained and although I am 13 I like short walks. I have a bit of a sensitive tummy but if I have my sensitive tummy food I am good. I don't like westies, however I do well with other dogs. This is Minnie Pearl! She went for her pneumonia checkup today and her lungs sound good. As you can see she is a happy and chatty girl. The vet believe she is closer to 10 years of age, she does have dry eye and needs drops daily. She still has a bit of healing to do and then will be available for adoption.
