Doesn't it get you mad to realize that just one donation from Bill Gates could get us a canine valley fever vaccine and then a people vaccine. He is living in a fungi-loaded area where his risk of getting VF is far greater than catching COVID 19. With all his smarts and money he doesn't get that our first duty is to Americans, not people in Europe and Asia.

There's a large space above our HDTV in the Flagstaff house, and it's eating at The Collector, i.e., my hubby. He wants to fill it ASAP. I told him civilly that we had agreed that his wishes would not supersede mine in this house. Which means that if I choose to decorate the space above the TV with a painting, collage, metallic sculpture or whatever, it is my option alone. His desires do not enter into my decision (although his monies do!).

I really haven't considered doing much to decorate wall space since I revel in minimalism. Such is the feedback I get from hubby. He's right to a certain extent. I do like the lack of stimulation I get from looking at blank walls. Also, I'm just plain lazy. I don't like shopping, and buying artistic "treasures" is at the bottom of my List of Things to Waste $$ On.

But if I know my hubby, he won't quit trying to get his way. Collectors are like that, especially collectors who have a passion for going to flea markets and visiting gift shops of hotels, museums, and airports. In fact, The Toasted Owl, a hippy-dippy cafe near our Flagstaff house, openly declares on its website that it will sell every tchochke in its place. Naturally all the cute little items are owlish. I like owls and we have a small collection at home, but I'm not sure I want to duplicate things in a second house.

Meanwhile the Collector continues to sweat the small stuff, eyeing each empty wall space as if it were the enemy and it must be defeated by a photograph, mosaic or some such decorative item. Please give me the strength to prevail over clutter!

Is this not hideous? But it's not the worst thing Valley Fever can do to you. It can make you so tired and sick you wish you were dead. And speaking of dead, it can even kill you! Donate for the vaccine fund at vfce.arizona.edu

A patient in a new case report was diagnosed with coccidioidomycosisis, also known as Valley fever, after doctors found a lesion on his tongue.

Just when you thought that they'd done everything with drones, I find out they are using them to wipe out populations of rats on islands like the Galapagos. Pretty soon they'll be coming after cockroaches. And when they've eradicated them from this planet, it'll be people without jobs, crippled dogs and feral cats. Then it'll rightly be called a holocaust or eugenics or just political correctness. What do you think?

I know rats carry disease and there's good reason to get rid of them, but don't you think this is a tourist thing. Hey Harry, that bus tour from Ohio won't pay a dime if they know rats are running around the island. We need to get rid of them pronto. Using a drone makes it seem like a WAR--it's We against Them. Democracy vs. Those Damn Rats that live communally--come to think of it, they're pretty good reps for communism.

I wonder how long it'll be before the prices come down and everyone has their own personal drone. What are you going to use yours for? First on my list is to rid the world of bigots; then I'll zap the super criminals--the pedophiles, serial murderers and rapists. After that I'll use it to clean up my garage, where my husband has an overflow of his "collectibles." Yeah, one good zap from a drone and it'll be goodbye clutter, hello sanity!

Well, today's mail has given me a lot to think about, and I mean that in the worst OCD way. It seems that researchers believe there may be a tie-in between gum disease and Alzheimer's. Oh my gosh, do you know how many people that affects? By my count, at least 50 million (I don't have the vaguest idea!).
My parents both died of dementia-related illnesses coupled with heart conditions. And, of course, even though my father was a dentist, he and my mother had gum disease. I'm sure of it because I know that for a fact, my dad lost lots of teeth and needed bridges, partials, the works. I think my mom didn't do much better.

Of course now I have the option to play denial or give this new research some credence. I'd like to dismiss the possible correlation by saying that this is just another band wagon dentists will hop on to make more money,, but my nervous self says dentists have already been promoting the prevention of gum disease. That's when I hit a wall. If I can't blame the dentists for being greedy, then I have to accept the possibility that the science is correct. OMG!!!!

I have or have had bad gum disease to the extent that I've lost teeth and have had bridges and now implants. And, I'm due for more implants on the other side of my upper jaw. Guilt is running rampant in my brain and now it's probably got a buddy: that bad stuff called amyloid. Amyloid may wreak havoc with your brain and it may be all because you didn't floss or use your water p*k enough. I hated doing both and severely neglected my teeth although I did go to the dentist regularly so I should be giving myself credit for something. Still, this stupid research study makes some sense because gum disease is as common as Alzheimer's if not more common. I hate that it's adding up to one big fat YES.

Looks like all those years making fun of dentists and crabbing about them to my husband and to anyone else in the room have come back to haunt me. What should I do? They still don't have a cure for Alzheimer's and this flower has lost some of her aroma. To put it bluntly, my petals are dropping, the water in the bud vase stinks and I'm way over due for a miracle. Got a spare one you want to send me? I'm open. I'll even buy one if the price is right. (Perhaps God is listening to my rant and will bless me with a dental genius who will make the periodontal disease go away.) A girl can hope!

I get so angry when dog people (those who breed, groom, rescue, show, etc) act as if Valley Fever is only as bad as a case of diarrhea. They're either ignorant of the harm it does to dogs--I mean life-threatening destruction to vital organs such as the liver or kidneys--or they've had their head in the desert sand for years. Valley fever is worse for dogs than for people, and it can kill both. Depending on the breed and how the infection spreads, you can either remit the infection and have a fairly normal dog or you can fail to stop the progression of the fungus and have a very sick, possibly paralyzed dog or one that lacks the strength to live a normal life. The problem is that a canine vaccine is a reality, but the Valley Fever Center for Excellence in Tucson needs more money to bring it to market. The NIH has contributed a bucketful, but dog people think they're somehow entitled to get away scot free without paying a dime toward the vaccine. That would make sense only if the Arizona State Legislature appropriated monies for the vaccine's development, but they're even stupider than the dog people. They wait around with folded hands for either California or the Feds to come up with the cash. Did you ever hear anything so unethical and parasitic? Arizona dog owners want to live off the generous donations of a few concerned citizens and federal agencies. It's the height of moral decadence. Everyone can contribute at least $5, and if everyone in Arizona and CA did that, we'd have a vaccine on the shelves a lot faster.

The whole situation, which has been making me angrier and angrier every year makes me wonder why these people even bother going to church, temple , or to a mosque to pray. Obviously they lack the ethics and morals that are necessary in the Judaeo-Christian-Islamic traditions.. Furthermore they fail to understand that a canine vaccine is the pathway to a human vaccine. Don't they care about their neighbors, their relatives, their children? They can inhale the fungus anytime, and their kids can get so sick they can land in the ICU or end up dead. What is wrong with these people? This is supposed to be the season to donate to the unfortunate and make like Santa. IF YOU WANT TO HELP SPEED UP THE CANINE VACCINE, PLEASE DONATE ONLINE AT WWW.VFCE.ARIZONA.EDU, Who knows, the person you help may be yourself or your spouse, child, grandson, or the guy down the block who always compliments you on your landscaping. Be groupminded, Arizona. Give until it hurts, at least a little!

Everyone in the neighborhood is aghast but in a good way. This is something they've waited their whole lives to get but didn't think it was possible. On a personal note I find it hard to believe that I could be so fortunate. These kinds of wonderful gifts are not the usual ones I receive. I'm more in the habit of receiving unwanted flyers from entrepreneurs who want to trim my trees, invest my monies, or supply me with more decorative stones for my front yard. I am so amazed that this Blessed Event is happening to me and my husband that I'm practically screaming it from the rooftops. So why don't I scream it here on Facebook; STARBUCKS IS COMING TO MY NEIGHBORHOOD!!
This time I've hit the Mother Lode. Now if only Baskin-Robbins agreed to a back-to-back franchise, I could skip mealtime completely. I'd have frappucinos for lunch, lattes for breakfast and a few pieces of banana cake to tide me over for my triple dip sundae with hot fudge, nuts and real whipped cream. Yes, I know this would severely damage my diet, but hey you only live once. Care to join me?

Just think if every one of those 700 "likes" contributed 5 bucks. We'd have $3,500 for research on VF.

Valley Fever (coccidiodomycosis) is a growing disease in Arizona and the desert Southwest, but mainly Maricopa and Pima Counties. The Arizona Victims of Valley Fever supports the ongoing fight against illness in people and animals with valley fever.
