April is Pet First Aid Awareness Month and because accidents can happen at any time with our pets, keeping an emergency first aid kit around and knowing how to perform CPR on your pet is always useful. Being prepared until you reach your veterinarian can help ensure the safety and health of your pet.

With that in mind - what PERFECT timing to be inviting Pet Emergency Education to come to Sunbury and teach a Pet CPR & First Aid Certification Class! The class will be held at the Sunbury Community Library (44 Burrer Dr) on May 4th from 11AM-2PM. This event is open to the public, but pre-registration is required, and spots are limited!

$74.95 Registration fee Includes: An official certificate, a 2 year subscription to our online Animal Emergency Resource Center, your choice of the 88 page full color class manual either as an Ebook (View Only/Cannot be Printed) or a printed copy (additional $24.95), businesses, organizations and groups may request a professional, frame-able certificate and window decal, to hang in their place of business to promote that their staff/members are certified.

Our program is based on the industry standard method of animal CPR. This class is designed to teach the participant how to administer emergency CPR and first aid to an animal until veterinary care is ascertained.

*This class will certify the participant in Canine and Feline CPR and First Aid*.

We strongly encourage all participants to bring their own stuffed animal to practice skills on during the class (optional).

The skills and topics covered in this class include:

🐾 Safety techniques when working with sick and/or injured animals,
🐾 How to perform emergency triage and assess if an animal is experiencing a life threatening medical emergency,
🐾 How to restrain and properly transport sick and/or injured animals,
🐾 How to provide emergency first aid to dogs and cats en-route to veterinary care,

🐾 Learn about the importance of the pet first aid kit and how to use the materials in it during an emergency.
🐾 How to manage and provide first aid for many common medical emergencies such as severe wounds, poisoning, burns, choking and more.
🐾 How to performing the most current industry standard method of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation on dogs and cats (Participants will receive a PetCPR+ Certification valid for 2 years)

While felines typically demand our respect and unwavering devotion every day of the year, make it a point to cater to their needs on this special day. 🐾💜💙

Here are some ways you can show respect to your feline family member:

#1: Give your cat opportunities to hide and perch 🐈

#2: Determine your cat’s prey preference 😺

🐦 Cat toys with feathers and those that chirp or flutter are great for cats who prefer birds.
🐁 Plush toys, furry mice, and balls can mimic the movements of mice.
🦋 A cat laser toy, a string with a knot at the end, or a robotic toy that skitters across the floor can resemble bugs, a common favorite of our feline friends.

#3: Change up your cat’s feeding routine 🐈

Feed your cat several small meals each day, ideally in a food puzzle, as a way of mimicking how they would eat if they hunted for their food.

#4 Make sure they remain healthy through preventative care 😺

This was a very scary storm. Thankfully, we are all safe here and we did not have any damage. I hope you guys are okay - please let me know if there's anything we can help with. ❤️

UPDATE: I spoke too soon. 😢 A giant branch fell onto part of our fence. Thankfully, no one was back there and it's just a small section that should be a quick repair. That branch must have been hanging on by a thread and the wind today was too much for it I guess. Photo in comments.

NEW INFO (9:45pm) NWS NOW CONFIRMS 8 TORNADOES TOUCHED DOWN IN OHIO THURSDAY-- (map courtesy NWS Wilmington - It shows estimated storm tracks based on current damage analysis. Some variation in the track could occur as NWS continues to investigate)

(this map does not include the tornadoes in Hancock Co (Findlay) or Crawford/Richland Co (near Plymouth)

1) EF1 in Hancock County
2) EF2 in Crawford tracked into Richland County
3) EF1 in western Mercer County OH, west of Celina.
4) EF1 in eastern Mercer County OH and tracked into western Auglaize County OH, west of Wapakoneta.
5) EF3 beginning in southern Auglaize County OH near Fryburg, continuing through the Lakeview area in northern Logan County OH.
6) EF2 in central Union County OH near Broadway.
7) EF1 beginning in central Delaware County OH, continuing tracking through north-central Licking County OH.
8 ) EF2 in Darke County OH and tracked into Miami County OH. This tornado began in Indiana and additional information will follow after coordination with NWS Indianapolis IN.

*Note- The storm that contained the EF3 tornado and caused fatalities in Logan County at Lakeview - is the same storm that moved through Union, Delaware and eventually Licking County. As horrible as this storm was, it could have been significantly worse as the storm came into highly populated Delaware County. The NWS is working to determine if the tornado was on the ground the entire time from Auglaize County through Logan, Union, Delaware and Licking County. If they can make that determination - then the actual tornado count may drop.

Well, well, well.. it's officially PROFESSIONAL PET SITTERS WEEK! 😁🎉 The 30th anniversary of this special week, to be exact. First introduced by Pet Sitters International (PSI) in 1995, Professional Pet Sitters Week™ takes place annually the first full week of March. This annual observance honors professional pet-care providers, seeks to educate the pet-owning public about the advantages of professional in-home pet care and encourages pet-loving entrepreneurs to explore professional pet sitting as a viable career.

Whether it be Little Critters Pet Sitters LLC or another local professional pet care company/individual, it is important to give recognition and thanks to the special individuals with whom you place your trust day in and day out.
