Let’s talk about the lack of quality coaching and lack of standards in the equine industry. For example, kids learning with someone who claims to be an "coach" and all they learned is how to see-saw a horse's head down and chuck their body over a fence like a champion. All coaching is not equal.

But what happens when you have a good coach? One that opens their program to you, takes you under his/her wing? Becomes invested in your success? When you essentially become part of the "family"...

Eventually, something will happen...

Coach tells you that you are not Karen O'Connor 2.0, and not ready to make the move up to the next level.
Coach says you need to go back and fix some holes in your training.
Coach says you have developed a bad habit, and it needs to be fixed before you can accomplish your goals.
Coach says you need to make sure that your horse is being ridden (not just hanging out at the barn).
Coach says you need to dedicate more time to studying the sport, not just riding.
Coach says it isn't a "horse" problem, it is a "you" problem.

People have become increasingly more reactionary. More easily offended. In lieu of everyone getting a trophy, it is so hard to hear these words from people you admire. Some of the best coaches will be the toughest. Not ones that tear you apart constantly, but coaches that aren't afraid to have the tough conversations with you. Or conversations that you may not have wanted to have.

But remember, a good coach is in YOUR corner. They want YOU to achieve success. They dedicate so much more than an hour of time to your growth not only as a rider but as a horseman. Maybe you are burning the candle at both ends (and in the middle), and you need a reality check that this sport requires more of your time and focus.

These conversations can hurt, but while it may sting at first.... take a second. Think about why your coach is against you moving up right now, why your coach is saying to wait until the summer to be a working student, why your coach is saying that you should not enter the show until the homework and flat work is done.

Surround yourself with coaches that aren't afraid to have these tough conversations with you. You don't want or need a "cheerleader" coach. You are paying you for your coach’s expertise... the positives and the criticism. Let them help make the best decisions for your horse, and for your program. The lessons on the horse and the lessons off of the horse. Are you ready? Are you doing what is best by your horse? You owe it to yourself and your horse....

As some, but not all, of you may know. We layed our sweet old mare and barn matriarch Revely to rest last week. She was 32 years old and had a large and opinionated personality that has left a large hole in our life at the barn, and amongst our horses that shared their lives with her.
Rev is one of those souls that shook the entire property with her passing, even planned none of us expected such a huge shift in all of the animals around the barn even the cats, chickens, and dogs spent the following days silent and in grieving with us.

Many of our clients up north and down south had to deal with a few day hiatus from both Rae and Cori in those days leading up to and following the loss of Rev.

And for that we wanted to share our deepest gratitude to our wonderful clients and Woodland Acres, who not only accepted our loss with kindness and grace but continued to show support in the following days and lend helpful hands to give us the time we needed to process, and for that we are extremely thankful.

Amongst all of her visitors she received in her last few days, showing just how many lives she touched, we want to extend a huge thank you to Lady Grace Photography for coming out to photograph Rev enjoying her last few days running wild in a pasture, playing with the farm chickens and almost running you over lol. You've given us memories we can forever enjoy even for such a sad occasion.

Congrats to all the Clearwater Equestrian Center - South riders at HAASS this weekend!

Cori and I are so deeply disappointed we missed your final day of showing this season due to contracting covid.

All the girls showed tremendous maturity and continued in not only showing this weekend but pulling together to support eachother and coach eachother on Sunday with us falling sick!
They also showed amazing horsemanship and took on MT and Scoobys care and safe passage home!

A huge shout out to Josie Howell and the girls parents for all stepping in as coaches for the girls Sunday in our absence and taking such good care of our lesson horses.

Thank you all and congrats, we will see you after quarantine!

If you know our trainer Rae, then you know his love for the barn cats, this also carries over to other properties. This is his friend Walter who likes to help teach lessons at one of his clients barns. 😂

Another show weekend in the books! Everyone had great rides and horses were amazing! We would like to thank our trainers Cori and Rae for helping get all of us riders where we needed to be when we needed to be there, all the parents for their support and the many pictures and videos they took for everyone and Hannah Lynn Ratliff for being our show groom Saturday and helping keep our trainers on track as well! And a HUGE thanks to Ericka Stemen for helping keep everyone’s heads on and stress levels down!
It takes a whole barn to make show days run smoothly and it doesn’t always, but we sure have fun!

When you fill your horse's water buckets, especially if you are away from home, do not immerse the nozzle in the water.

This is because hose nozzles can be a major culprit in the spread of diseases.

“We’ve found with strangles that one of the best conduits of disease was a water hose, and you see this all the time at shows, where competitors and grooms use the same hose in a barn,” says Robert C. Stout, DVM. “What better way to move the disease from stall to stall and between horses who never actually come in contact with each other? We had one major strangles outbreak at a racetrack where we could track it right down the barn aisle where the same hose was used to top off water buckets.”

Meet our new instructor Ericka! As many of our long term students know, Ericka has been around the barn helping with students and traveling to shows with us!

Ericka brings 20+ years of horse experience to our program, as well as 3 of her own lesson horses!

Ericka will be taking on her own lesson students as well as any of the students unable to follow Cori and Rae to the northern facility!

We would like to take this time to introduce our new social media manager and super groom Josie!

Generally hiding behind the scenes and giving pep talks to nervous students as well as wrangling and organizing our coaches when they're spread too thin,(on top of showing herself)

Josie generally gets overseen for the hard work she does by others, but not by us! We couldn't do it without her!

Make sure you stop and say hello and a big thank you to her for everything she does for our barn and team!
