This lucky boy has traded shelter life for sandy adventures, and he’s absolutely thriving, and is living his best life.

A huge thank you to SJ Johnson for ensuring our dogs didn’t have to spend the night without heat! 🐾❤️ We are incredibly grateful for their quick response and genuine care for our rescue during this cold weather.

Unfortunately, we cannot say the same for the company we were using. Their lack of customer service and disregard for the wellbeing of our dogs left us deeply disappointed. Our rescue—and our dogs—deserve better.

Thankfully, SJ Johnson stepped in and within an hour, their team had a truck out to fill our tank ensuring our dogs were warm and safe for the night. It was a perfect example of what real customer service looks like, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their support.

🐾 Meet Rook 🐾

Rook, the stunning 1-year-11-month-old Great Dane/Lab mix who weighs in at a majestic 75 pounds. This handsome boy is looking for a forever home with someone who has experience with large breeds.

Rook was in a foster home so we could learn more about him and here is what we learned. Rook can be hesitant when meeting new people and takes time to warm up to unfamiliar faces, so will need a home dedicated to continuing working with him.

Rook is a loyal companion who bonds deeply with his people. Because of this, a home where he can be the only pet would be ideal, but open to meets with another dog in the home as long as he can receive all the love, attention, and training he needs to thrive.

Please be mindful of the weather and your pets.

In light of severe cold temperatures forecasted in Calvert County, the Department of Public Safety has issued an animal safety alert for Tuesday, Jan. 14, through Friday, Jan. 17. During this period, animal owners or custodians are required to provide the following actions to protect their pets and livestock:

• Dogs and cats should be brought inside. If a dog or cat is left outside, they must have free access to a solid structure that is heated or is set against the prevailing winds and allows the dog or cat to maintain their core body temperature.
• Livestock and farm animals should have free access to protection from the weather that allows animals to maintain their core body temperature.
• Livestock and farm owners should provide access to additional food to allow animals to recover from the loss of additional calories.
• All animals outdoors must be continually monitored for signs of distress.
• All animals must have access to clean, unfrozen water at all times.

Failure to comply with these safety measures may result in penalties, including fines up to $1,000 or 30 days in jail.

To report concerns, citizens may contact the Animal Control Division at 410-535-1600, ext. 2526, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After hours, concerns may be reported to the non-emergency line at 410-535-3491.

A Sweet Story: Lil Peanut Dutton’s Journey

From the moment Lil Peanut Dutton came into our care, we were head over heels in love with this tiny fighter. His gentle soul and sweet eyes captured our hearts instantly. But it wasn’t long before we realized just how fragile his situation was, and we were overwhelmed with worry that we might lose him.

Enter the incredible team at Mid-Atlantic Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH). They saw what we saw—a special little dog worth fighting for—and they jumped into action, working tirelessly around the clock to save Lil Peanut Dutton. Their dedication, expertise, and unwavering determination made all the difference.

Peanut didn’t just survive; he thrived, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who met him at MASH. In fact, one of the staff members, Katie, fell so deeply in love with Lil Peanut Dutton that she decided to carry a piece of him with her forever—she had his image tattooed on her arm as a tribute to the bond they shared. ❤

We also want to extend a heartfelt thank-you to our friend Gennifer, whose quick action late at night saved Lil Peanut Dutton from harm’s way. Her bravery and compassion ensured he got the help he needed just in time. Additionally, we are incredibly grateful to our wonderful foster, Kristina, for her tireless, round-the-clock care and continued dedication to helping Peanut grow bigger and stronger.

To everyone who has donated towards Lil Peanut Dutton’s care, followed his journey, and sent him love and encouragement, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your generosity and support have played a vital role in his recovery, and we know Peanut feels all the love surrounding him.

We wanted to share a heartwarming update on Tootsie! 🥰 Tomorrow, January 13 will mark one year since her adoption, and she is thriving in her forever home. She’s happy, healthy, and absolutely loving life with her family.

We couldn’t be more thrilled for Tootsie and the incredible journey she’s had over the past year. Thank you to her amazing family for giving her the love and care she deserves. 💕
