Got to join 2 of my favorite worlds tonight! Kal came with me to the dance class that I help with for the first time 🙂. He did amazing! He was nervous when the music and dancing first started and the clapping and synchronized movement kinda freaked him out (it's a room of about 100 people). He tried to hide behind my chair at first but I pushed him a little to come a little to the side of me/behind me so he could still watch and focus on me and gave him focus command and treats when the move intimidating things happened 🙂. After about 30 mins to an hour he settled down and relaxed a little more but didn't really want to watch the dancing. But after dinner (the half way mark) he was really settled down and relaxed a lot more and was fine watching and staying in a down-stay when I had to get up and do or get something 🙂 You can see a video of him settling really well during one of our rowdiest/loudest dances and I was really proud of him! Everyone said he did so good and loved him and our kids were great about ignoring him 👍 (all our leadership have already hung out with and love him haha) He even alerted to me after dinner, which I was really impressed with him still being intent to do in such a distracting and overwhelming environment he was still adjusting to! Love this boy so much ❤️ We were there a total of about 5 hours.
We've been working on Kal getting a steady hold for FOREVER and tonight with a different method it just clicked! He's amazing at retrieving tasks to I introduced this "carry" task tonight for things he picks up for me or I give to him, so then I tried telling him to pick up his item and reward when he held it steady (which we've already worked on with his "hand it" cue to put something in my hand steadily). Then I'd give him the item with "take it" like I paired with his "carry" and rewarded when he held it steady waiting for his carry cue. And I added his "sit" while carrying by requiring him to pick up the item he'd drop when sitting and eventually he kept hold of it (I don't know if any of that actually made sense explaining verbally). Shaping and connecting things for this dog is just so fun! Sometimes I swear he knows English and things I haven't even taught him he figures out so quickly and intuitively #Kaladin #gsd #gsdofinstagram #germanshepherd #czechgermanshepherd #czechgsd #gsdpuppy #newpuppy #dogsofinstagram #dogsrock #dogsofatlanta #dogsofatl #pupstagram #puppiesofinstagram #instadog #crazydoglady #workinggsd #sablegsd #sablegermanshepherd #training #dogtraining #tasktraining #Servicedogtraining #SDit
Kal's newest task that I'm super proud of! This one was a little harder and more complex to teach but he's rocking it now! This one I tried learning to teach for the purpose of helping people with syncope episodes, to make them sit down safely before they pass out, once the dog knows to alert to it. Also good for people with panic attacks who need to be grounded, especially people to may be a flight risk. He does awesome at it! He's very careful to grab the clothing and no skin, and gently but firmly pulls me down to the ground. Success!
Super proud of this boy this week! Decided to really crack down on his heeling, since my goal during PA is have him on a hands-free leash most the time and less tools. So we've been working on that this week and he's been doing amazing and progressing way faster than I thought he would! But this not always does that haha. Yesterday was his first outing using the hands free setup with his ecollar and I kept the prong on just in case. And today he did awesome with just the ecollar and his regular martingale collar! Not perfect, but we're getting there. And big progress from last week's outing when he he'd push his heel a little or he sloppier. Here I'm also adding "right" and "left" commands, to help him get the hang of my directions, since sometimes he drifts away or bumps into me when I turn away or into him haha. He used to be really bad at the automatic sit when I stopped too, and he's gotten a lot better! ❤️ #Kaladin #gsd #gsdofinstagram #germanshepherd #czechgermanshepherd #czechgsd #gsdpuppy #newpuppy #dogsofinstagram #dogsrock #dogsofatlanta #dogsofatl #pupstagram #puppiesofinstagram #instadog #crazydoglady #workinggsd #sablegsd #sablegermanshepherd #training #dogtraining
