Yay! It’s Tails and Trails (DDO) day! Adventuring with these special souls absolutely fills my ❤️cup! Today, adorable and adoptable Fonzy (ID ) and I hiked 7 miles on this beautiful crisp, clear day! We both couldn’t stop smiling all the way back to San Jose Animal Care Center! Fonzy would love to be your furever bestie! He is a real lovebug!

It’s NATIONAL DOG DAY! Let’s all celebrate by posting a pic of our (well trained!?) favorite K9! Founded in 2004 National Dog Day celebrates all breeds, mixed and pure and serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, either from public shelters, rescues and pure breed rescues.
National Dog Day honors family dogs and dogs that work selflessly to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day - protecting our families and homes, for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for the disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and helping to locate and rescue victims of accidents and tragedy. We know that is not all that they do! Dogs are simply amazing!

The 4th of July is almost here and while celebrating our independence is a great reason for bbq, pool parties and fireworks, many of our fur babies are traumatized by the fireworks and neighborhood firecrackers and m80’s. A few reminders to help keep our very much loved fur babies safe and stress free; 1) on the big day, make sure your dog gets some exercise. A tired pup is a more relaxed pup, so be sure to empty out that tank!

Doing things like going to the park and playing ball, taking a hike or even wrestling in the living room will make a difference in your dog’s overall stress levels 2) Create a quiet, safe space.
Whether you’ll be home or away for the festivities, make sure your dog has a safe place inside your home where they’ll feel comfortable “riding out the storm” of Fourth of July fireworks.

For example, you can make their kennel extra comfy by draping a sheet over it to create a dark den and including plenty of bedding in which they can burrow. Learn how to create a zen space for your dog.

Also, double check that doors leading to the outside are securely locked, as the Fourth of July holds the record for runaway dogs. You can also have music playing or the tv on as an added buffer. 3) Make Sure Your Pet Has Proper ID
Ensure that the information on your pet’s collar is current and make sure your dog is microchippedand has a GPS (AirTag!) device. “If they escape, there’s a better chance they’ll get returned. 4) Consider a supplement or prescription medication to help calm them.
It’s always best to ask the advice of your vet before starting any supplements. It’s especially important to talk to your vet if your dog is on any medications or has dietary restrictions to ensure they won’t have an allergic reaction or suffer side effects.
While supplements are useful for many dogs, they are not effective for every pup. Some dogs may need prescription medications instead to reduce their anxiety. Speak with your veterinarian about these various options if supplements are not working.
