Teach your dog their name in 5 simple steps! 🐾

1️⃣ Use your dog’s name clearly and happily during positive interactions.
2️⃣ Reward with a treat when they respond.
3️⃣ Repeat this process several times a day for consistency.
4️⃣ Practice in various environments to reinforce the name response.
5️⃣ ‼️Avoid using their name in negative situations to keep it positive ‼️

🇺🇸 July 4th 🇺🇸 is fun for humans. But for many pets, fireworks make for one of the most stressful nights of the year. This is our friendly yearly reminder to get started ASAP!

It’s probably too late to work on the fear of fireworks for July 4th of this year. BUT ITS NOT TOO LATE for New Year’s and for next year’s celebrations.

You can still advocate for your dogs this year by following these tips to keep them safe:
💥 Make sure your dog is wearing a collar he/she can’t slip out of, and a name tag with current contact information.
💥 Exercise your dog plenty during the day before fireworks.
💥 Keep them on a leash and secure when outside, at all times.
💥 Leave your dog at home with all windows and door securely closed. A crate is ideal.
💥 During fireworks, keep your dog in a comfortable room inside. Turn on the TV or play gentle music to drown out the noise from outside.
💥 For very nervous dogs, a thundershirt or a holistic calming supplement (like pet CBD) can help calm their nerves. Some dogs may require medication.
💥 If your dog is up for it, a chew toy, an enrichment game, or a simple training session can be a great way to distract your pup from what’s going on outside!
💥 Remember not to reward anxiety with extra attention!

BE PROACTIVE. Teach your dogs how to cope and guide them through the stress. Get them ready for future celebrations:
🌭 Work on boosting your dog’s overall confidence. This is a long term training plan that will benefit your dog in so many ways.
🌭 Practice long duration down/stays to teach your dog how to relax. Eventually, the fireworks can be used as a new level of distraction.
🌭 Expose them gently and train around loud environments such as construction sites.
🌭 Counter condition and desensitize the sound of fireworks.

Friends! We’re sure you’re all aware, but…
🌧️FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT🌧️

Here are some tips to keep you and your pets safe in the face of an emergency: 
💧Monitor weather reports for flood warnings and/or more severe conditions. 
💧Drive carefully! Avoid walking or driving through flood waters. Stay home as long as you can.
💧Stock up with food, medications and any other supplies for you and your pets.
💧Take extra care in the prevention of mosquitoes breeding in standing water.
💧Know your flood risk. Stay alert. Create an emergency plan. Evacuate quickly if necessary.

Make the best of the ugly weather! Enjoy cozy time with your pups and be safe.
