On 6/2/2025 two long term fostered rescue cats were brought to Companion Animal Hospital of Lafayette for vet care.
Senior cat, Haruhi, was brought in to see Dr. Angie for a suspected ear infection and bumps on her back. She was diagnosed with an ear infection, and was treated with an EKMT Otic pack (medication in her ear). She was also diagnosed with skin dermatitis and a secondary infection. Haruhi was given cortisone and antibiotic injections to treat her skin issues. Haruhi came to us on 7/21/2011, along with 3 brothers, as bottle baby kittens. She'd been to many adoption events as a kitten and young adult, and no one ever put in an application on her. Because we do not euthanize for space, Haruhi, and many other unwanted cats like her, are still with our rescue awaiting furrever homes. Lack of adoptions, and a drastic reduction in donations, is why we have taken in so many less animals than we used to.
Hup was also brought to the vet later the same day, for swelling in his hocks (heels) and limping. He was hiding earlier when he heard the crates, so we had to bring him in later when he was napping. X-rays showed signs of osteoarthritis. To confirm this diagnosis, and rule out other potential issues, he was treated for 3 days with the Rx Onsior to see if it would reduce the swelling or not. There was 50% improvement in the swelling after just 2 doses of the anti-inflammatory pain medication, so the diagnosis of osteoarthritis has been confirmed. Hup was born with a birth defect that caused some of his toes to be fused together, and some of his claws to not be in the normal location of his paws. Because of this, it's even more important for him to have his nails and horn trimmed regularly at the vet's office. The paw condition itself is not painful, however it does cause his gait (walk) to be different than a cat with normal paws. Over time, the way he walks can cause osteoarthritis. Hup came to us on 10/23/2019 as a tiny kitten, and still has not been adopted due to his birth defect being a reason that no one wanted him. Sponsors are urgently needed to pay the remainder of Hup's vet bill, and for his continued care.
We paid $300.00 on Haruhi and Hup's vet bills, which leaves a balance of $274.00. If anyone can help us raise the money to finish paying off our debt, and to replenish our funds for future vet bills, it would be greatly appreciated! Anyone can call the vet at 337-284-8898 to make a payment on Hup under the account of Acadiana Humane Society. Please email us at [email protected] with the subject line "donated to vet account" if you would like a tax donation receipt. Let us know the date and amount donated, and your name.
