Happy October!
It’s been exceptionally busy lately. As we’re in the midst of the harvest season, this year marked our inaugural attempt at processing crab apples. I produced a batch of crab apple juice infused with cinnamon and cloves, which, although well-received by myself, didn’t quite appeal to everyone due to the absence of sugar, preventing its full transformation into cider. We also prepared Great Grandma’s Monster Cookies, which are naturally gluten-free, pumpkin purée that was later converted into pumpkin cookies and baby food, and plan on making a batch of gluten-free donuts. Recently, we harvested our Fuji Apples and planning to utilize them in making apple chips, apple sauce, and hopefully, gluten-free apple crisp.

We are currently exploring a permanent roofing solution for our new chicken run. Unfortunately, we suffered the loss of one of our cherished chickens to a raccoon last week. So this week, our focus is on integrating our youngest and smallest chicken into the older flock as she was left alone, and the prospects appear promising.

Thankfully I found time to capture my families growth as well.

We would love to hear how you use your apples and pumpkins.

The coop's interior is now finalized, and our little hens are thrilled to cohabitate with the bigger hens, enjoying ample space to roam. Thanks to Eric for his exceptional expertise, and patience throughout the building process were instrumental in bringing this project to fruition. A showcase of the fully completed “The Hen Den” will follow, likely later this month.

I love this time of the year. It’s been wonderful to be eating straight from the garden the last couple of weeks.

This last week has been crazy! We took the week off of childcare providing so we could concentrate on providing better homes for our outdoor crew. Lots of planning, communication and trust going into building the girls a bigger home with plans to give them a bigger enclosure for the winter. Pictures of before. I will post more once we complete our coop.

P.S. please let me know if you know someone who would love our old hen house one we are finishing building their new home.

Just a couple of our egg colors for this year.
