Spa day for Chacha! She had a bath, brush out (why do the short haired dogs always shed so much more than we ever think they will?!), nails clipped, paw pads moisturized, and took a run on the treadmill!
This girl is ADDICTED to rolling in dirt. Lets all collectively send our hopes to the sky that she stays clean more than two days.

Please take a moment out of your day to take a sniff test so graciously provided by Bailey. Trust, she’s a professional.

Reminder: hydrate your dogs kibble!

Brand doesn’t matter here. ALL kibble has to be extremely dehydrated to keep its form and stay shelf stable. Your dog should be getting a good part of their hydration from their diet to support their health. Kibble alone doesn’t do this.
Thankfully it’s an easy fix. Pour some warm water over your dogs food 10-15 minutes before you feed them to give it time to rehydrate!

4 reasons to crate your dog in the car:

1. Safety
- Although many people like their dogs to be able to move around freely and stick their heads out of the windows, it can be dangerous if there were to be a collision. The dog could be thrown through a window, get severely injured, or even run away!

2. Calm
- Some dogs tend to get anxious when they are inside a moving vehicle. Others get anxious when seeing new people in the streets and all the commotion in town. Using a dog crate allows your dog to be inside a safe space, or a “den.” The crate also blocks out some of the outside stimulus through the windows.

3. Cleanliness
- Not many people want their dog to drag mud into their car, or vomit, go to the bathroom, get dog hair on the seats, scratch their interior, and so on. You get the point, people want to keep their cars clean, and sometimes having a dog makes that difficult. Using a crate contains any mess they may make!

4. Safer travel for multiple dogs
- Traveling with one dog loose in the car is one thing, but add another dog to the equation, and it can get dangerous. If your dogs become too rowdy or get into a dog fight or get tangled, it will most likely distract you from the road. keeping your dogs in their crates eliminates that risk!

Do you keep your dogs crated in the car?

Ways to beat the heat as the summer temps creep back up:

1. Chase the shade! There is a noticeable difference when the sun isn’t beating down on you.

2. Misters! These are way easier and cheaper to install than you might think!

3. Fans! Battery operated or rechargeable fans that can move with you. Pair these with the misters I mentioned and you are golden!

4. Indoor activities! Because sometimes the previous 3 are not always accessible or enough. Limit your time outside and know there are plenty of things you can do to keep your pooch mentally stimulated and physically exercised.

Stay cool my friends!

Don’t waste your money!

Not only are ESA/Therapy Dog/Service Dog not the same thing, but the lack of knowledge around requirements for each make it easy for online scammers to make promises and take your money.

If you’re interested in any of these things, take the time to actually research what these titles mean and what you really need to meet the requirements. But a random website writing a letter for you without ever laying eyes on you or your dog is NOT it.

I get it! I also only own “low maintenance dogs” for a reason! They don’t need to be brushed daily or be professionally groomed every 4-6 weeks.

This does NOT mean you’re off the hook!

You should still be bathing your dogs on a semi regular basis. It doesn’t have to be a long, in depth thing. But it’s good for their skin and to help them shed that extra fur!

You should still be trimming and/or dremmeling their nails! My personal preference is weekly. But I wouldn’t go longer than two weeks.

Dental cleanings! This is really dependent on diet, lifestyle, and genetics. But please pay attention to your dogs mouth and work with your vet to know how often your dog needs this.

Are you already doing all of these things? Is there anything I missed?

I’ve had people asking this question since day one. And for a while, I couldn’t answer it because my dogs didn’t even really SEE my baby until week 2. My husband was caring for our dogs completely after I had her.

And now that she’s around them, there still isn’t a ton of interaction between them. And that’s on purpose.

I see videos all the time of people letting their dogs come up to their brand new babies in a super excited and aroused state. I personally wouldn’t allow this.

But WHY?

Well, a few reasons.

1. Dogs don’t see babies the same way they see other humans. They look different. They move different. They sound different. They even smell different. That means this is an entirely new experience for them because my dogs don’t have experience with babies. I’m not going to allow them in her space without first exposing them to her at a distance and gauging their reactions to her.

2. Babies are FRAGILE. My dogs are not gentle. I don’t call Francois a bowling ball for no reason. Another reason we need to practice a lot of calm and control at a distance. I will slowly decrease the distance as they gain the capability and understanding to be calm and slower moving around her.

3. Most importantly- this one is about Francois specifically. Frenchie has a high prey drive. The baby’s cry triggers that. I can see it in his eyes. Gypsy and Charlie both seem to be calmly interested. It’s a whole different story with Francois.
Now, am I worried? Am I going to have to give him away? No. Because of all of the foundational work we have already done he is already learning not to see the baby that way. But had I risked it and just let him approach her the way I see people doing on the internet? This wouldn’t be the story I’m telling now and honestly it wouldn’t have ended well.
Training and relationship building are the only way I could have handled a dog like Francois and newborn.

My advice is to train your dogs BEFORE baby comes home and set expectations from the very first time your dog ever lays eyes on your baby. 🤍

Alright y’all. I guess this guy just moved to AZ. As much as I love to build up and support other trainers, that isn’t the case here. “The Dog Daddy” passes over being heavy handed and crosses the line straight over into abusive. Spread the news far and wide, this isn’t someone to trust with your animals or give your hard earned dollars to.

Happy New Year’s everyone, I hope it’s the best one yet for all of us!! This year has been a pretty interesting one.. I got a lot of preparation done for next year and I’m so excited to blow it up next year!! Since I just moved to Arizona I’m starting the year with a public meet and greet in Scottsdale Arizona on Sunday January 7th! Y’all can meet me and my dogs at 5 PM til 6 PM for photos, I’ll be answering some dog training questions and hanging out with y’all at Scottsdale Quarter outside of True Food Kitchen ( 15191 N Scottsdale Rd
