Preparing your dog for the vet and preparing the vet for your reactive dog:
1. Training isn’t just obedience. It’s your overall relationship with your dog. This lays the foundation for everything that happens moving forward. Don’t be surprised if your dog is a dingus at the vet if you allow them to be a dingus everywhere else. The vet can be a stressful place so expect any problem behaviors to be slightly or severely escalated.
2. If your dog is reactive you should be conditioning them to a muzzle. It’s a good idea for dogs who are not reactive, but it’s non negotiable for dogs who are. Don’t put the people who care for your dog at risk. This is applicable for dogs who need professional grooming as well.
3. When you make an appointment let staff know your dogs temperament. (Example: Francois can be shy and prefers you move slow. He will happily wear a muzzle if any of his care staff feel safer with him doing so).
4. Remind staff on arrival of information shared in step three.
5. Advocate for your dog. Don’t let people in their space if they don’t like it. Save the extra touching for when the doctor does their exam. Being touched out happens to dogs just like people.

These two BOTH got adjustments with our favorite animal chiro today before our long drive in a few weeks.
Highly recommend getting chiropractic adjustments for yourself AND your pets!!
I see such a clear and immediate difference in Gypsy after her adjustments- this will be a regular part of her care moving forward.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes : Francois edition.
I tell my clients all the time that resource guarding is an addiction. Francois has relapsed recently so he’s on a heavy management plan with minimal privileges. So it goes 🤷🏻‍♀️
Side note: this photo is crusty and dusty. He and Gypsy both got baths today 🧼

Francois hates bath day. After having his nails done and being cut loose he immediately ran through the mud. Out of spite, I’m sure.
