Happy Labor Day!

Today is a holiday for a lot of us!

I like to take extra time to train on holidays. Typically it’s not a normal training session. We start with play and food sharing then move into basic cue’s and then we learn something new!

I encourage you to take a few minutes and try a new trick or cue with your dog. Have fun with it!

Fur-baby Friday
Fun facts about a fur-baby that has been through training with Jack's Legacy Az.

This week is all about 15 month old Moose.

Moose was found dumped when he was about 8 weeks old.
His owner originally thought he was part Great Dane because he had huge paws as a young pup. His DNA results revealed he is a Super Mutt with mostly Lab, German Shepherd and Basenji.

Moose LOVES to dive into water and retrieve toys. He will play for hours in the water. If you are in the water swimming with him, you will probably get dunked by him when he tries to stand on you. He loves all food and is described as derpy, goofy and the class clown. Moose likes every dog he meets even if they don't like him.

Moose came to Jack's Legacy to get help with his manners and to build confidence.

Motivation Monday!!!

Quick tip:

When I train with dogs, I make sure that the dogs don’t have a full tummy. That means we are reducing their meal intake or skipping a meal. **This is especially helpful if they will be doing a lot of physical activity. 🤮 is real lol. **

Most 🐕🐩🦮 are food motivated (some more than others). Typically dogs will work for food better on an empty stomach.

Make sure you are using your dogs high value treats / toy when training.

If you don’t know what a high value treat is or where to start, we can help! We have a systematic approach to find your dogs value system.

It's Fur baby Friday!

Our fur-baby this week is 2 year old H***h!!

He has a lot of nicknames from his family like Poochie, H***hie Poochiepants, Hooooooch or just Pooch. His family adopted him from ASPCA. He has almost every bully breed in him. Isn't his face just adorable?
He is very curious and loves to follow behind grasshoppers, crickets, and any small creature. H***h is also a goofball rolling around and making facial expressions that just make us laugh. He is a very low energy dog but loves to wrestle and go on sniffari's. He is fiercely protective of all he considers his pack both furry and human. H***h is a snuggler preferring to sleep with his head on his owners pillow or cuddling with another dog. He gives “walrus kisses” sniffing and brushing you with his short whiskers. His favorite game is to play tug with one of his packmates. H***h loves to dress up and can often be seen wearing sunglasses, headbands, or hoodies! He has done fabulously working on his reactivity and controlling his prey drive.

🐾🐾It’s Fur baby Friday🐾🐾

Meet Lucy!

Lucy is super sweet and has the best smile.

Her favorite thing is food (besides her family of course). She’s the only dog I’ve met that will never turn down a treat. She also likes lick mats, kongs and sniffy walks.

Lucy started training with us because she had a lot to say when visitors would come to her house!

Lucy has made amazing progress with her training. She’s been learning boundaries, how to focus on her pet Parents, using her inside voice in the house (aka not barking) and building confidence.

We are so proud of her!!

✨✨Fur baby Friday!!!✨✨

This week’s furbaby Friday is

Lola💖

Lola is a rescue guessed to be a lab/pitty mix. And boy- she has come a long way. We love Lola so so much.
Her family has had her for less the a year. She was a rescue, with a sad case. She had been returned multiple times to the shelter and is suspected to have been used originally as a bait dog for dog fights. She was very scared and shut down.
Luckily her new mom, Marina Castillo Delgado, had no plans on giving up on her and came to us! And together we put in the work to get this sweet girl on the right track. We are so so so proud of both of them as a team and with how far they have come!
Lola is fantastic. Here’s a little bit more about her 💖
She hid a lot in the beginning and would find spots to stay and hide. She is now much more confident!
She doesn’t like squeaky toys, those are scary! But she does love empty water bottles! (Anyone else’s dog like water bottles? Mine sure do!)
She loves chicken and is super food motivated!
She knows the word lizard, she loves to hunt them and does so successfully 😂
She loves puddles and mud!
She does that adorable frog leg sploot!
She is so eager to learn new things despite being nervous. She pushes through the nervousness with the reassurance from her new mom. Watching their relationship and trust blossom has just been phenomenal to watch.
We started out as private sessions wondering if we’d get outside!
And guess what… Lola graduated privates, and has just recently started group classes!!

Congratulations Lola and Marina, we are seriously so proud of you💖🎉🐶

Motivation Monday!!
***If you have multiple dogs you need to hear this***🐕‍🦺🐕🐩🦮🐕‍🦺🐕🐩

As pet parents we try to do EVERYTHING with all of our dogs and for most of us that isn’t possible. It can be overwhelming and let’s face it, exhausting!!

🐾INSTEAD do ONE activity a day and choose a different dog each time! 🐾

Remember simple things like spending quality one on one ⏱️ can make all the difference!

Right and left turns
Downstay with various people walking around

Introducing…

Furbaby Friday!!!

Every Friday we are going to post about a Furbaby! Either introducing one of our dogs, or one of your dogs who’s doing or has done any kind of classes/sessions with us!

We will start off with -

Pax!🧡 aka “rainbow dog”, “bunny tail”
Pax is apart of my(Madi) pack, he is the oldest at 3.5 years old! His birthday is January 2😊 His designated color in our group is orange. He’s an Australian shepherd!
He loves the cats, he likes to give them love nibbles and follow them around. Sometimes too much 😆 He has never met a stranger, he’s entirely too friendly and thinks it’s his job to be the official greeter of the whole world 😂❤️ hes mothered kittens, tried to kiss lizards, he’s just so curious and sweet towards small creatures and children too! He’s a favorite cause I often dye him rainbow(hair dye created special for dogs!💖)
He was born deaf(yes he does have his own sign language), so he doesn’t communicate quite the same as other dogs and they are often confused by him haha, this also makes him the perfect intro dog because he’ll never be bothered by being barked at😂. He tends to be loud and exuberant when playing, But also can be polite in public when people want to pet him 🥰 He just loves being included in whatever is going on, likes to just experience and sniff everything! He can’t have soft toys un attended because he *will* chew off the pieces and eat them🙃 he loves getting the zoomies and bouncing off of everything, and rolling on his back all over the ground no matter where he is. Most people who take classes with us meet him at least once, often more than once haha. He’s a very good boy❤️

I want to take a moment to say that you will always have days where you question yourself and everything you’re doing. Where you’ll wonder if what you’re doing is worth it, if it’s working, if you’re making the difference that you wanted to make.
This is true in almost every aspect of life. It’s important to remember that doubt is important if you want to feel success. And that most of the time you can’t see the impact you’re making until later on. Sometimes way later on.
Don’t stop believing that what you want, and what you’re doing, will pay off. Because it does ❤️

Motivation Monday!!

A really easy way you can build motivation and confidence in your dog is…
Praise and reward!

Yes, that simple!

Most of us as dog owners don’t realize how often we are telling our dogs no or “Hey, you can’t have that!” “What are you doing?”“What do you have?” “Give that to me”

Does any of that sound familiar? How about…
“Come here so I know you’re not getting into trouble”
*baby talk”it’s ok it’s ok! Let’s go”* -when dog is scared or nervous
“Don’t you want to go play?”

We spend a lot of time telling our dogs what they can’t do, what they can’t have, where they can’t go, or… what WE think they SHOULD do.
Try telling them, and SHOWING them(yes I do mean to do things with them😂 I promise it’s fun) what they CAN do, what they CAN have, where they CAN go. Instead of saying no, tell them yes! Join them in their day, just a little.
Make them WANT to do the safer, better, more enjoyable thing.
Find things that they do, anything, in your day that you like what they did. And praise them! Whether that be with physical pets, treats, play, or any combination of the above.
Give your dog proper direction by showing them the things that are allowed and fun, and make potentially boring things fun simply by praising them and giving them a couple seconds of snuggles or play!

Most of the time, the best learning they do and the best way to build confidence is to do things- with y o u ❤️🐶
