Check out this unique case!!
Louise is a 4 year old spayed DSH owned by one of our very own technicians! A few weeks ago she started noticing some sporadic unusual behaviors...
👉Twitching skin along her back
👉 Agitation
👉 Quickly looking at her hind end
👉 Running away
👉 Aggressive grooming especially near her back
👉 Hiding
After a short chat with Dr. Mackenzie, Louise was diagnosed with a condition called Feline Hyperesthesia, also known as "Twitchy Cat Syndrome". This is a neurological condition that causes increased sensitivity in parts of a cat's skin. It's not necessarily painful, but can be uncomfortable and is likely a very strange sensation. Episodes are generally short and occur at random.
🐾🐾
This isn't a "curable" condition, but it can be managed. Treatment can include medication and sometimes alternative medicine depending on the severity.

Our technician Meghan caught this great video of Louise displaying the classic Twitchy Cat symptoms at home so check it out!
Age itself is not a disease, but our senior pets can develop age-related problems. Regular visits help detect these problems before they become serious or life-threatening, which can lead to a happier and longer life with you! We recommend pets over the age of 7 years be seen every 6 months to ensure we address their ongoing healthcare needs.
If your furred, feathered, or scaled friends haven't had a check-up in a while, now is a great time for a tune-up. The weather will be shifting soon, and we want to make sure your pets are ready for the fall season! With the addition of another veterinarian on staff, we are able to accommodate all appointments quickly, even on the same day! Give us a call with any questions to or schedule an appointment. 🐶🐈🐹🦎🐰🐢
It's hot out there! Keep your pets safe and leave them home!
Is Your Pet Protected?
It is a common misconception that ticks are only around during the summer months. Adult ticks will actively be searching for a host when temps are in the low 40's (sometimes even lower if it's sunny). With our inconsistent Wisconsin weather, ticks are active ALL the time, which is one reason why we recommend preventative year round.
Simparica Trio covers 5 types of ticks, heartworm disease (which isn't fun for anyone to treat), fleas, and intestinal parasites. If you have questions our team is more than happy to answer them!

Is Your Pet Microchipped?
If you've ever experienced a lost pet, even for just a few minutes, you know how gut-wrenching it can be.
We celebrate "Check the Chip" Day in August, but after a recent situation involving one of our own patients, we wanted to bring awareness to the importance of pet identification.
We all know there are many different ways to identify our pets, ranging from tags, to embroidered collars/harnesses, to microchips. Tags are fantastic and an easy way for someone to learn your pets name and find your phone number at a glance. However, if your pet gets stolen these things are easily removed and thrown away.
Microchips are the only permanent form of identification, but it takes a special scanner at a veterinarian or humane society to obtain the number. Microchipping is a quick procedure that we can perform at any time. It is crucial you keep your contact information up to date with the microchip company, or there is no way to locate you if your pet winds up at a shelter or vet.
No one likes the idea of their pet running away or getting stolen, but the reality is that it happens every day. Fortunately, our patient was safely returned to his family, but the incident occurred out of state and could have ended differently.
If you'd like us to microchip your pet just give us a call and we'll get you scheduled!!

It's time for another round of 🤷What's Your Diagnosis?!🤷
Today's case is a 12 week old kitten who was recently adopted from a farm. The owners brought her in for vaccines and a check up, and mentioned she was frequently scratching at her ears and shaking her head.
In both ears was a dark brown material, which was scooped out and evaluated under the microscope. This is what we found!! Any idea what these creepy crawlies are?
**Bonus points if you can give us the formal Latin name!!**
Check back tomorrow for your answer!!
