Losing my days with my sleeper cat. Monkey is no longer himself. I tried to sleep on the floor last night to accommodate him, but it didn't last very long, I'm too old for that. When he first lost his vision, you wouldn't know it, he got around perfectly fine. Now, he acts like he has no idea where he is and he spends his nights wandering and yowling. 😭

It's also Pet Fire Safety Day. Are you prepared? Cats should be carrier-acclimated, carriers kept accessible at all times. Dogs might be a little easier if you can get them out quickly and safely. When I had my fire, I got the dogs out and 5/7 cats while putting out the fire. 1 cat went under the master-queen bed and the other was just about to be put into a carrier until the fireman, who didn't listen to me, entered the room in full garb (scary!) That resulted in getting scratched from wrist to elbow, adding blood to my smoke and fire extinguisher residue. I've also seen other people's pets come into the hospital after their housefires. If they escaped and survived, they usually require oxygen therapy and a good cleaning. Some fire departments are trained to give oxygen to animals on the scene. My animals are the reason I stayed in the house post-fire. I didn't want them displaced to various kennels after an already tragic event. Check your alarms, make sure you have plenty of fire extinguishers, and make sure there are no safety issues that a pet couldn't create a fire with! My SAMSUNG stovetop did not have safety locks, the k***s could be freely turned on. Use care with candles. I've also heard of a cat knocking over a lamp which was on and when it crashed down, that started a fire. You never know when it could happen to you, so try to be prepared. It's something you'll never forget.
