Pepper and Piper 🥰

These kids were found stray in the Little Birch area and brought to our shelter. Pepper is a male with a black muzzle and a white stripe on his nose. Piper is a female with a brown muzzle and a pink and white snip on the right of her nose. They are around 4-5 months old and 25-30lbs. We are guessing they are Dane mixes because of their size, ears and long toes. They were very scared when they first came to us but they are warming up nicely and being very friendly with all shelter staff now. Meet Holly! 💝

Holly is a 1y female pit mix. She is on the smaller side, around 35lbs. This girl was dropped from a vehicle in Gassaway and picked up by animal control so we have no back story for her. What we do know is that her sweetness is indescribable! She’s sweet as sugar and loves everyone she meets. We don’t know if she’s ever lived indoors but we are guessing she has because she will hold it to go and potty outside. Holly is dog social, and kind of a bottom of the totem pole persononality. We don’t know how she would do around cats. Holly girl is quiet and walks great on a leash. She knows sit, lay and will speak on occasion for treats. This special girl deserves a special forever home. If you would like to meet Holly stop by the shelter during business hours. 765-2200

Boo Boo 🎀

She is a 9 month old female GSD/mastiff mix. 45lbs. She came into our shelter as a stray from the Sutton area. We know her age and breed because the person who owned her mother messaged BCAS and gave us a few details. She is a very playful girl who enjoys toys and thinks she is a lap dog. We are working on teaching her to keep her feet on the ground. We don’t have much history on Boo Boo but we do know that she has a love for life, is very charismatic, dog social and would make a wonderful best friend to someone for life! Baron 🩵

He is a 1.5 y old brindle male pittie, 55lbs. Baron was left behind when his owner moved away. Baron is said to have lived indoors but had some accidents in the house when not given the opportunity to potty outside often enough. We know that he has lived with other dogs and is dog social. We also know that he is good with small children and cats. He walks well on a leash and is a fairly chill, and gentle soul for his young age. He likes to sit for treats but then half the time he spits them out because be just loves human attention. Baron is a good boy who’s just had a rough start. Meet Sadie (2y brindle female Mountain Cur) and Dixie (5y blue/gray female Mountain Cur)! These girls are purebred with papers and are our longest residents here at BCAS. They came to us when their owner could no longer care for them and they have been at the same home but do not seem to be bonded. They have lived mostly outdoors inside a fence. Sadie and Dixie love kids and are gentle with them. They do not do well with cats. They are both crate and leash trained. These girls have very kind eyes and are as affectionate as they come. Dixie likes to give chin kisses and Sadie loves toys and is treat motivated.

Please share: This speckled male dog was found stray in Gassaway across from Kenton Meadows field. If anyone recognizes him please contact the animal shelter at 765-2200. He will be held on a 5 day stray hold by law, in a an attempt to find his owner, and then become adoptable.

So many folks jumped in on our Kuranda’s for Christmas dog bed drive and we received 15 new raised dog beds! We are all very excited to make our dogs comfortable while here at BCAS.

Please share: This young female dog was picked up in the Little Birch area and brought to the shelter. At the time our humane officer spoke with the person surrendering and asked them to hold the dog due to our facility being at capacity. A few hours later she was found running on South State Street in Gassaway. If you recognize her or would like to reclaim her please call the shelter at 765-2200. This seems like a very intelligent pup that someone has worked with because she will sit, lay and speak for treats. 🥰

Kuranda’s for Christmas! 🎄🐾

Braxton County Animal Shelter has been using Kuranda beds to keep our dogs happy and healthy for years. The way these cot-like beds are designed, our dogs can sleep raised off the floor where they are more comfortable, with their weight evenly distributed to prevent those with a longer stay from getting any type of pressure point sores. There is also no stuffing to harbor allergens and bacteria which makes them healthier and easier to keep clean. At this time some of our beds have been here for years and only need replacement parts to make them more comfortable. We currently have 4, 8 month old littermates available for adoption. 2 males and 2 females. They currently weigh 27-32lbs. Their names and genders can be found in the photo captions and photos will be deleted as they are adopted. Their momma is a pit/boxer mix and we aren’t sure what breed dad is. These pups love toys, are very treat motivated and affectionate and also very smart. If you would like to meet them and think you could give one of them a wonderful forever home please stop by the shelter during business hours or give us a call if you have questions. 765-2200
