Good morning and happy Monday to you all!
Our brilliant 'Helping Hands/ Healing Paws' pet food pantry team were out there in the blazing sun on Saturday morning in Athens, eager, ready and willing to help pet owners in crisis.
We are beyond proud of Outreach leader Sheree Barwise, transport guru Patrick Eggers and ace volunteer Laura Williams for getting out of bed at 5am to do this. That, my friends, is pure selflessness.
Our team helped 128 dogs, and 125 cats on Saturday morning. They gave away food, flea and tick repellent, natural anti-inflammatory supplements Dr. Baker's System Saver as well as leashes and treats. We also gave socks and blankets to the homeless.
This mission is about making it possible for people in financial crisis to keep their pets, rather than surrendering them to the shelter.
We are proud to say that many people tell us they were so relieved when we started this outreach because they knew that if we hadn't, it was going to be a very sorry ending for their pets.
Shelters are in crisis, rescues are over-run, there is simply no room to put every surrendered pet so many end up being euthanized as soon as they enter.
Help us to help them. If you can donate just a few hours of your time either to help bag food into portable-sized ziplock bags, help load up the 'goodies' trailer, or even help distribute food in Athens or Commerce at our pet food pantries, we want to hear from you.
We are a very small rescue with a very big reach and its people like you that help us to do this.
Our thanks to Patrick, Laura and Sheree for being exceptional humans.
