Here is Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelters pet of the week, Chewy!


Chewy is a one-year-old Australian Shepherd mix who's an all-around great pup! She's almost two years old and makes friends with everyone she meets - dogs, people of all ages, and even cats! 🐾
Coming in at about 32 pounds, this girl is a true medium-sized pup, not too big and not too small. She's still got a little bit of puppy energy and LOVES to play and romp around the yard. Chewy is truly a perfect dog!

Kai is Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelterspet of the week!

After being adopted and then returned, this ten-month-old, shy boy is scared in the shelter and needs a gentle, loving family to care for him. Here's a little bit more about our sweet boy Kai..💙
Kai is a Presa Canario mix that's already house-trained, AND good with kids & other dogs. What more could you ask for?! Kai has been returned to us for no fault of his own and needs a safe place to land. We hate seeing our pups spend their youth in the shelter.
This precious pup of love is 65 pounds and still growing, so we recommend him go to an adopter who can handle larger dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all vaccines, and microchipped. Take a chance on Kai and let him fill that missing piece of your heart.

Big Mac is a charismatic and confident 1-year-old pit bull mix in search of an experienced owner who can provide the structure and guidance he craves. With a personality as large as his stature, Big Mac thrives in an environment without young children or small animals, as his exuberance can be overwhelming for them. Despite his size, Big Mac is a cuddle enthusiast and loves affection, though his high energy can sometimes be too much for some people. He is actively working on moderating his enthusiasm during playtime and is quick to learn, especially when motivated by tasty treats. Scrappy is the Atlanta Humane Society pet this week!

Scrappy is a 2-year-old chihuahua mix. He's a charming and affectionate dog who can be a bit shy at first, but he's easily won over with some tasty treats. He's known for his attention-seeking behavior, including standing on you, giving kisses, and pawing for pets. Once he forms a bond with his favorite human, he tends to stay close and offer unwavering loyalty. When Scrappy first arrived at Atlanta Humane, he was unfamiliar with everyday experiences like walking on a leash. Thanks to the dedicated Behavior and Training Team, he is making great strides in learning leash skills and enjoying affection from familiar faces. Scrappy can be startled by loud household items so he'd thrive in a quiet, low-activity home with minimal travel or boarding. He’s best suited to a household with older children who can respect his need for personal space, as younger children might be too overwhelming for him. Lots of summer cookouts end with cool, refreshing watermelon. Watermelon is fun for pets; the high water content hydrates them and the glucose gives them energy. However, pets often swallow the seeds or eat the rind, and both can block the GI tract. With heat waves sweeping across the country, blue-green algae is appearing in new areas and posing an increased risk to pets.

Found in lakes, ponds or any source of standing water, it’s extremely toxic and consuming it can be fatal. The best way to prevent accidental poisoning is to keep a close eye on pets when they’re around water.

If you think your pet has been exposed, take them to the nearest emergency veterinary hospital and contact the ASPCA Poison Control at 888-426-4435.
