Swansea Animal Shelter Volunteers

Swansea Animal Shelter Volunteers We are a group of volunteers, a separate entity from the Town of Swansea. Animal Shelter – Hours are by appointment only.

We provide necessary funding to keep homeless animals at the shelter healthy, safe and comfortable, until they can be adopted. Animal Control serving Swansea and Somerset Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 9am – 4pm,
Wednesday 9am – 5pm
Saturday Mornings or by appointment. There is an Officer on-call after normal working hours and on weekends for emergencies only, such as an animal hit by car, vic

ious animals or a rabid animal. These calls should be reported to the Swansea Police Department at 508-674-8464 or the Somerset Police Department at 508-679-2138 and they will dispatch an Animal Control Officer. Please call 508-679-6446 to schedule an appointment at your convenience. Please note: We currently have a limited facility for cats, we will assist you in anyway we can and we will respond to calls regarding sick or injured cats. We do on occasion receive cats and kittens in and provide temporary housing for them until they can be adopted or transferred. If you have a problem with a stray, healthy cat please contact the Humane Society or MSPCA.

Our sweet bully gal Heaven is now ready for a home of her own. She absolutely loves people and her tail is always wagging. Heaven is on special diet, she loves her food and her snacks. She walks nice on leash. We have not dog or cat tested her yet..but she could very happily be your one and only. She is 9 years old gal and should be snuggling w her family on the sofa!!!! If you can't adopt..please share, so we can find her a home of her very own ❤️

Happy tails Sammy ❤️

One yr ago, on Valentine's Day, your life changed forever. You came to us physically & mentally broken. You had no trust in humans, you could not walk and you were so thin....but thanks to an amazing group of volunteers and staff, you began to trust, to heal mentally & physically... At 14 yrs of age, you fought to walk, trust and love again. You won!!!

Thank you to Sammy's new family for taking on a senior gal. A gal who sometimes could be a tough cookie...but underneath it all...just wanted to be loved ❤️ Happy life Sammy!

Meet Heaven 🤍

Heaven is a 9.5 year old bully who is simply a love. She is round, and very cute shaped. She is shaped like a hippo so when she wags her tail her whole body follows. She happy trots and weeble wobbles about and will follow you anywhere, just happy to be by your side.

Heaven came to us when her owner passed away, and from day one she opened her heart to us and expresses such a profound spirit behind her sweet eyes.

Heaven is on a special prescription diet as she is prone to urinary stones, but she doesn't mind, she thinks it tastes great. She must remain on that diet unless directed by her veterinarian. There isn't much she doesn't love, especially if it includes quality time with people being around her.

Heaven has not yet been animal tested, but the family of her previous owner said to use caution with other animals, so we will do as such.

Update, Samantha has finally found her people, we are so grateful. She is ADOPTED. Thank you to everyone for rooting for our girl.

✨️Say hello again to Samantha✨️

Samantha's story is a bit of a miracle, the things you see on movies and reels of beautiful success stories, we would like that story to become a complete success with her finding her forever home, because she deserves it.

Samantha came to us a year ago completely immobile, her back legs could not function due to muscle atrophy, her nails were also grown through her pads and she was sad and scared. After much TLC from our volunteers, staff and amazing veterinary hospitals in our area Samantha began to walk, then run, then become a dog again at 12 years old.

Samantha is a personality, shes got fire and spirit packed into a 12 lbs terrier mix. She loves what she loves and will speak out on what she doesn't. We respect that, because she's earned it.

Samantha does get possessive over what is hers, especially in her kennel, and will give warnings when she is not in the mood to socialize with a raised lip, but on the other hand when one of our volunteers take her for her visits to their home she is a sweet snuggle pie who just loves belly rubs and attention. You must understand where she came from to understand her personality. She gives us breakthroughs on a daily occasion and we never cease to be in awe of her.

She is the definition of sugar and spice.

She does play like a little lady, she loves to stir up drama so she's the center of attention, her life revolves around snacks and piggy stuffed animals.

Samantha does not like other dogs, and will make it known she is the biggest animal on the block, she is a fierce protector. She must be the only pet in the home, no exceptions. And she would not fare well with kids, because she said so.. loudly. 🤣

Say hello to GRAMPA the man of the hour! The myth, the legend! Mr. G MAN!

There is not enough we could say to fully explain the depth of Grampa's personality and do it justice.

Grampa is estimated around 10 years old

He is simply and truthfully and amazing soul. When he roams the office he choses out of the entire building to be smack dab right in front of you with his entire heart on his sleeve demanding love, and boy does he get it. He is a velcro cat, a cuddle enthusiast, he often will rest his entire face against your forehead in hopes he can fuse with you and be one. He is just awesome. (And sometimes dial emergency numbers on the office phone with his bum)

Grampa has been with us for awhile now, and along with his big personality he also does come with some special needs. When we found Grampa he was very sick, and turns out he was a diabetic, We have him regulated and he is a peach for his insulin, he truly is a champion. He takes it easily twice a day via needle and eats his friskies pate with a smile.

Grampa would be suitable in a house where one is comfortable giving insulin, he is okay with most cats but be aware he will try and steal their food so no free feeding, he does not do well with dogs.

Meet Simba!!!

Simba is a 16 year old handsome man who doesn't look or act his age!

Simba came to us after his owner had passed away, and was at first very shy but still very sweet, after a few weeks he flourished into a brave and kind soul, he will chirp when you walk by so you are 100% required to stop what you're doing and give him extra attention and then you'll forget what you were doing in the first place because he is the sun and we rotate around him.

Despite being 16, he is still playful, curious and chatty. He loves to be brushed and could spend the entire afternoon on your lap being pampered, which is important since his coat is long. He loves soft beds and time well spent with his people.

Simba does give love bites so at this time we do not recommend houses with young children, he doesn't seem to mind other cats as long as they aren't all over him and give him his space, no dogs though as they are scary to him.

Say hello to our old gal Blackie 🥰

Blackie is a distinguished senior lady, at 12 years old she is independent and set in her ways..and her ways are pets and pats and a gentle love.

She is looking for a quiet home with an easy pace and an owner that doesn't mind if she's a little slower and will appreciate a good sitting window, some snacks, and to be brushed for hours while purring like a motorboat.

Blackie does have a thyroid condition, as many senior cats (and humans) can have as we age and she is a champ at taking her pill with her breakfast and dinner like any proper lady would.

Blackie does well with other cats but she does not fare well with picking up or rough handling as she is dignified and does what she wants and what she wants is a soft blanket and wont be afraid to remind you of that. At this time to respect her silly senior self we ask for no homes with young children. She is not dog tested but perhaps the right dog would be considered that shares her ideologies.

🌿Miso and Wasabi🌶 are still looking for their forever homes! Even though they come off as sassy at first, once they gain your trust they are sweet as pie. Please refer to our previous post about more information on these girlies as they have some special needs.
