This was a surprise. I love it!

I have worked so hard over the past few years to grow my businesses and it has definitely paid off. There are some days I wonder if I'm doing enough, then I see this and I'm reminded that I am enough. :)

Meet MJ Aylesworth located in South Carolina!

MJ Aylesworth has had a deep love for everything horse related since she was a young girl. She competed in barrel racing, speed events, obstacle Couse challenges and more. After joining her local 4-H she became involved in educational equine events and began judging horse shows. Summers, she worked at local horse farms to learn as much as she could from different disciplines. Throughout high school, Mj shadowed veterinarians and graduated college with an associate degree in animal science. She worked full time as a veterinary technician. Learning more about all kinds of animals, she worked as a dental technician and surgical technician, always volunteering at local animal shelters and horse rescues. A scholarship winner for Holistic Animal Studies, she became a certified equine massage therapists and bodyworker for both humans and animals. She now runs a successful business called Spotted Ponie Therapies in South Carolina. Again, as a scholarship winner for Equi-First Aid USA she became an Equi-First Aid instructor, founding another business: Equi-First Aid South Carolina. She offers veterinarian designed and monitored classes in equine health and emergency first aid, advanced first aid and more.

Mj serves on several nonprofit boards: South Carolina Horse Council, Indigenous Women's Alliance of South Carolina, Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women's Task Forse for South Carolina, the South Carolina Draft Horse Association, is the vice-chair for her Native American tribe: White Top Nation and runs the SC chapter of the Pink Berets. When MJ is not running her businesses, helping a non-profit or furthering er educations she can be found with her husband on a quiet trail with their two draft horses or on a hiking trail.

What measures have you taken to reduce fire risks in your barn?

According to the National Interagency Fire Center, in 2024 there have been 16,940 reported wildfires in the U.S. to date. Make sure your farm has a fire prevention plan and an evacuation strategy in place to keep both horses and people safe.

Barn fires are the number one local emergency affecting agricultural facilities. They can cause horrific injuries and kill more horses than any other type of disaster, so being prepared is only in your best interest!

Did you know?

Heat exhaustion in horses is caused by overexertion, particularly in hot, moist seasons. Heat exhaustion is most common in horses that are overweight, out of condition, or commonly categorized as “cold” or “warm” blooded horses.

Hot blooded horses are more resistant due to bone, muscle, and skin characteristics. However, they can also succumb to heat stroke if overworked.

Remember this:

Ambient Temperature (°F) + Humidity (%) = Heat Index

< 120 = safe
120-150 = use caution
> 150 = don’t ride

Do you want to learn how to deal with heat stroke, dehydration and so much more?
