I love teaching new experiences! This rider has been riding with me for about 1.5 years and got to try her hand at deworming at her lesson this week! She successfully treated all three of our horses and did a fantastic job!!
We talked about why we deworm, different practices for rotation of dewormers, possible risk of resistant-parasites, and do’s and don’ts for administering pastes. 🪱 ❌ 🐴
A short clip of our big welcome home after being gone 10 days for vacation. We used our own farm sitter for the horses, Daisy (our geriatric dog), and barn cat. We had to go to plan C by day #3 for our newest pup, Ruthie, whom can be higher anxiety. This is a short video of her coming back home. A fluff ball of excitement between her and Daisy. ❤️
I have several higher anxiety dogs I care for as well as our own ball of fluffy nerves and energy. The best plan of action is communication with the hired sitter and contingency plans. Your pups’ anxiety doesn’t need to prevent you from travels! Simply put a plan in place to keep them at their safest and most content so you can take your trip with no worries. 🙌☺️
I tried to set him down at the beginning. Unacceptable. 😅 At least he’s cute. #farmlife #momlife #smallbusinessownerlife #tallpinesanimalservicesllc #horsemomlife
Welcome to your furever home to our newest rescue, Ruthie Roo. 🫶Two year old German Shepherd, Ruthie, is living her best life being snuggled by our family, gushed over by lesson clients, running in the creek on the back of our property, and patrolling the day away. She came to us skinny and showing signs of being contained in a small space much or the time. This smart girl is quickly picking up on obedience training, loves having a job, and loves exploring on the property with her new family. Welcome home, sweet girl. #tallpinesanimalservicesllc
Allergy season 😩 everyone is feeling extra cruddy and itchy with the pollen and temp changes, including our sweet Katy Bug. Thanks to our quick working vet, Katy is now on steroids and antihistamines to get these itches and bumps under control as well as a close eye on her respiratory state. Baby Ezzie and Ruthie Roo the dog are helping me scratch Katy Bug’s VERY itchy tummy. See the way she’s stretching her neck out and pursing her lips? 🥴 that means I’m itching just the right spot. Hopefully you all are finding just the right relief for your allergy needs this season!
Sweet Dusty 😅 I rode Dusty the gelding today which enraged my heart horse, Charm the paint mare. So I hopped on Charm for 2 minutes of fun bridle-less, bare back, connection time before heading to my next appointment. Charm, the resident drama Queen, was further infuriated when Dusty had the audacity to follow us around like a lost puppy. I love the spiciness of (most) mares and the chill, puppy dog vibes of (many) geldings.
When your horse’s vet appointment is on lunch break right off the turn pike… 🤣
As promised, here’s the video of Charmy’s scope! She did have a few minor ulcers so she’s being treated with omeprazole for 30 days. She snuck hay from the stall next to her in the trailer, which you can see on the camera! She otherwise fasted from food for 24 hours and water for 14 hours to ensure we could see the lining of her stomach. Over four foot of tube was passed the length of Charm’s esophagus to her stomach. Too cool!
Good girl ground tying, Tootsie. Now please don’t get my Christmas outfit gross 😆. Those of us with animals know there are no holidays from caretaking or wound treating. It’s a blessing to have been entrusted with such wonderful animals, both my own and my clients. Happy Holidays, friends!
We have some pretty special lesson horses. ❤️ Charm was raised and trained by solely me since her yearling (1 year old) year. She’s a favorite of the three horses used here at TPAS. Sometimes you just need to hop on over a winter blanket, grab a lead rope to help steer, and enjoy jogging and walking around in the sunshine. ☀️
Tales of TPAS adventures/misadventures 😅
Roosters can be an occupational hazard for me, and this new farm proved no exception this week. Two freshly pubescent roosters are experiencing the effects of testosterone, which means we’re all experiencing the effects of their testosterone 🤣 The boys decided to divide and conquer, one going for the poor pup and one coming after me carrying baby Ezzie. A flap of my raincoat deterred further attacks but the baby giggles were almost worth the hassle. Almost. 😅
We had a busy weekend. 💪😁😜🙌
Rented a tractor for the weekend 😁 Let’s see what we can get done around the rain! 💪
I love getting to take my boys to work with me. Hearing big brother go through the list before we leave makes me smile: water ✔️ food ✔️animals looked healthy and unhurt ✔️ doors/gates locked ✔️ Then onto the next order of business 🐎
One of the lesson students learned lunging basics this week! He did a great job adjusting his body language to communicate with Charm on the lunge line. 🙌
Having fun, standing in our stirrups! Is there anything better than the love of a little and their equine?! ❤️
Hay loft is done! 💪 never underestimate the desire for good wine 🤣
Horse shows haven’t kept us from our continued property improvements. Pictures and details to come, but for now Baby Ezzie and I had to share our new manure management toy! Our new-to-us dump trailer is filled every three days after daily stall cleaning. On the third day, we hook it up to the mower and dump the contents in low spots in pasture #3. This also helps give our sandy soil more texture for grass to grow a better root system. The boys and I have enjoyed this upgrade over our wheelbarrow!
