Detailed explanation...
Registration happens in multiple waves.
Wave 1 - Invites
This is for folks who were in the top 10 for either cumulative or average scores, or who podiumed at the last UPDIF and have met the qualification point requirements. They are guaranteed these runs, but they have to claim them by the deadline, which this year is 11:59PM Eastern Jan 23rd. If you have a team that earned an invite you should receive an email to that effect prior to Jan 21st at noon. It will include the registration link. Wave 1 runs do not count towards run limit implemented in wave 2.
Wildcard Wave - Wildcards
This is an opportunity for UpDog to choose teams it wants to invite on a discretionary basis. This wave is similar to wave 1, in that the teams are guaranteed these runs, but they must claim them by the deadline. Wildcards opens on Jan 25th at Noon, and closes Jan 27th at 11:59PM. Wildcard invites are sent via email and should arrive later on Jan 24th. Check your spam.
Wave 2 - Qualified Teams
This is the wave where all teams that qualified for UPDIF can request runs, and teams that were invited for certain games can request additional runs. This is also the wave where we capture information about shirt size, players pack, meal options, etc. Everyone attending UPDIF needs to complete the wave 2 process, even if they don’t choose any additional runs. The link for the Wave 2 Pre-Flight will appear on the home page of the team site (you must be logged in). It will also be posted here prior to this wave opening.
You will be asked to rank your runs in the order of preference. The higher the run is on your list, the more likely you are to get it. There is a soft limit of 5 runs per team and 15 runs per handler, and the interface will let you know when you have hit those limits - but don’t stop there. The runs that are ranked above those limits are far more likely to be allocated, but you should absolutely put in a request for any runs you’d want to play - even beyond those soft limits, because it is possible a run you ranked high on your list is already full, but there could be room for a run further down your list.
Wave 2 Pre-Flight opens on Jan 25th at noon and must be completed by 11:59PM ET Jan 27th. Please get started early, because if there are issues with teams not showing up in your registration, etc we will need to time to fix that. You should definitely at least review your registration to make sure all the teams/games are there by Jan 26th.
The Scramble
This is where your place in line is determined. On Jan 28th at 8:00PM ET a button will appear on your registration. The time you click the button is recorded, and we will allocate runs based on the order of that time. So the person that clicks the button at 8:00:01 will go before the person who clicked at 8:00:02, etc. In the past we ran the allocation logic immediately and you could see what runs you got. This year we are not doing that - we will be running the allocation logic separately once the scramble closes, which is 11:59PM Jan 28th.
Wave 3 - This wave will happen automatically behind the scenes. Once all the runs from wave 2 are allocated the system will go through and assign any remaining runs (if there are any) in the order of your place in line until each game is full. A waitlist will be created as each game fills.
The allocation process should be done by mid-day the 29th - you’ll receive an email with the details of what you were allocated and what you owe. You will be able to click a button to pay.
Payment must be received by 11:59PM January 31st in order to secure your runs. Any unpaid runs will be allocated to teams on the wait list after Jan 31st.
