Great job by Clyde (112), Seger (112), Luna (108 prize 1) and Ryker (82 Prize 3)! You qualified Emmylou for her 1st Breeder's Award! It will be the 3rd award for their fantastic sire, Prairie Trout Pudelpointers Yaeger Kai! Great looking pups with a bright future ahead of them. It will be fun to see which one of these pups earns their Utilty title first.

I'm not as good as I once was, but apparently I am as good twice as I ever was. Taking High Over All at the two different CNY RGS sporting clay events I shot this year is definitely pushing my luck! Thank you KADAT Sports Farm for hosting my favorite event of the year.

Seger is our puppy from Emmylou's litter with UT 1 Prairie Trout's Yeager Kai and she certainly reminds us a lot of her mother. She should run her UT test next year.

Thank you to Mike at C&S Custom Calls for the new limited run Archangel! I have run one of his Justifier series calls for years. Great calls and a great company. This will probably be the only call I own that doesn't see the field!

***************Upcoming Litter Announcement***************************

We are proud to announce the pairing of "Lilly", Lunatic Fringe Brown Eyed Girl (NA 110) to Outlaw Pudelpointers' "Hank" AVATAR ZE STRIBRNYCH DOLU - UT 201 Prize 1.

Lilly has an excellent temperament and is lucky enough to live with the biologist who not only bands the majority of waterfowl in Northern NY, but also oversees much of the ruffed grouse / woodcock habitat improvement projects on State property. Lilly was handled to her NA Prize 1 score by her "real" owner, his 9 year old daughter.

Hank is owned by our friend, Outlaw Pudelpointer's, Joe LoCicero and was trained by our friends at Mountains Fury Kennel. As such, we were able to work with him 2-3 days per week, over the course of his Natural Ability and Utility Training. Hank is an excellent water dog and is the most explosive and big running pudelpointer I have seen. I believe Hank may just be the highest scoring imported NAVHDA Utility titled stud dog in at least the last twenty years.

I would like to extend my thanks to all of those who took the time to wish my family and I their condolences about Gypsy. The amount of messages, texts, and phone calls was truly overwhelming, and appreciated. What really struck me is not the quantity of messages, but rather the quality of the people who sent them. I don't know how I have come to know so many great people. Thank you!

Life goes on. There will be a 2025 litter which will certainly catch a lot of people's attention and the pick of that litter is staying right here!

I am truly humbled by all the kind words Bob Farris has said about me, and my dogs, over these past few years. After a pretty rough day yesterday, it was very uplifting to listen to this podcast this morning. Thank you Bob for trusting me with some of the best dogs ever created at Cedarwoods Kennel. Your stories about hunting, insights on dogs / training, and your advice on life in general is always welcomed, valued, and appreciated. We will always do our best to produce the type of dogs that meet the high standards set by Cedarwoods Kennel, because that is the level which our hunting style demands.

If you did, then continue on to Episode 25 (https://thewhoapost.buzzsprout.com), where Bob Farris answers the following questions:

-Do you introduce your dogs to birds when they’re 8 weeks old, let ‘em retrieve, get their mouths full of birds?
-Why are women better handlers and trainers than men?
-What is the role of breed clubs?
-Why are hunt test scores so important to a breeder, or puppy buyer?
-How can Versatile hunting tests be better?
-What breed is the best grouse dog? It's not what you think, but it is what I think 🤣 .
-Shoutout to Kris Hill
-How Bridget Nielsen and a handful of other folks saved the Vizslas.
-Why breed clubs need responsible mentors.

When I first asked Bob Farris to represent Pudelpointers on my podcast he replied: "You know, I've done a lot of these. Would you mind if I recommended some questions to you? There are a lot of things that folks don't ask about that are pretty interesting..."

When a guy like Bob offers that up, you graciously accept every time. Check out Episode 24 to hear what he has to say: https://thewhoapost.buzzsprout.com

Lunatic Fringe Pudelpointers Seabiscuit's Nordstar scored a 108 prize 2 today. He has come a long way from his time here! He is a dog to keep an eye on in the future. He carries more like genes for Cedarwoods Man o War (VC, NSTRA open champion, HRCH) and Cedarwoods Prince From Zoey (204) than any dog alive. We are watching his development closely! In the meantime, he will retrieve a pile of wild pheasant, grouse, and woodcock up in Canada!

Last year our friend, Bob Farris, put us in touch with Bob West for the purpose of writing an article for Gun Dog Magazine about the North American Pudelpointer Alliance . The article never panned out however my conversations with Bob West will not be forgotten. He is easily the most knowledgeable and impressive man I have ever spoke to about bird dogs. From stories about Bodo and the other founders of NAVHDA, to his personal knowledge regarding the breedings behind the GSP who would be "my" 1st bird dog, HOF Hidden Hollows Ronlord Ruler, I really enjoyed the conversations.

Anytime Bob West speaks it is worth a listen.

Hunter, dog trainer, nutritional guru, magazine writer, an Upland National treasure ... Bob West of Purina joins me for a wide-ranging discussion full of reminiscences. Besides talking about his fellow legends, Bob's backstory might just prove he was the first "influencer" in our world ... back when...

The Origins of Lunatic Fringe Pudelpointers

There has never been a time in my life when I have not been surrounded by hunting dogs. My family initially owned blueticks and beagles however, in 1986 our phone rang and the ensuing conversation would change my life forever. On the phone was Herb Hollowell, owner of Hidden Hollow Kennel in New Jersey. During the 1970's and 1980's Hidden Hollow was a small, family run, kennel who tore through the German Shorthaired Pointer world like few before, or since. Herb, and his wife, Elaine, also happened to be my father's mentor during that time, selling him his first bird dogs and helping him in the field trial game. This small kennel produced more dual champions than any kennel in AKC history. The greatest of all the Hidden Hollow dogs was FC/AFC Hidden Hollow's Ronlord Ruler, known as Styx to those who knew him. On the phone that fateful day was Herb, asking my father if he would consider taking Styx in for a few years, so that he could live out his retirement doing what he loved most, hunting. Styx was my first exposure as to what a bird dog was, and later, what one could become. Everybody should have the opportunity to see a dog of that caliber once in their life, but very few ever will. Styx went on to produce not only a National Field Champion, but also the first 204 Utility dog in NAVHDA history, Dan Carter's, Woodland's Lord Hanschen. Styx was inducted into the German Shorthaired Pointer Hall of Fame in 1990. Through a twist of fate, I had the honor of handling a Lord Hanschen' grandson in an AKC trial with Dan Carter, in the gallery, a few years ago.

As this passion continued to grow, I happened to read the Field and Stream article about Cedarwood Kennels and Bob Farris. I would encourage everybody to read this article. It is available on Bob's website. In the article is a quote from Bob stating that if he was going to go duck hunting with somebody who has a champion Labrador, he wasn't going to go unless he can put down real duck dog. At the same time Bob wanted his dogs to be able to hunt right along side a horseback field trial bird dog the next day. Having seen both of these types of dogs up close and personal, I knew that when a space became available in my kennel, I needed to call Cedarwoods Kennels, and speak with Bob Farris. In 2003 my first Cedarwoods puppy arrived and my journey with this wonderful breed began. This journey has led me through not only the NAVHDA world, but also has given me the opportunity to compete in several AKC pointing Amateur / Open Gun Dog and Open Limited Gun Dog trials, in addition to training with my pudelpointers in our local NAHRA retriever club. Through these adventures I have been fortunate enough to form close friendships with serious dog trainers, handlers, and judges, from all ends of our hunting dog spectrum.

As much as I love playing the dog games, such as field trials and NAVHDA testing, the reason we do this is simple. The hard work of preparing for these events directly leads to a more productive hunting season each fall. At Lunatic Fringe Pudelpointers we live for hunting season. On an average year we can be found afield with our dogs at least fifty times, and some years considerably more. In doing so our dogs have been able to forge the reputation as no-nonsense, honest, bird dogs, regardless if the game is opening day of woodcock or the last day of duck season. Our dogs have been prominently depicted in our local media, in NAVHDA's Versatile Hunting Dog Magazine, on Cedarwood Kennel's website, and have appeared in a Lynch Mob Duck Call advertisement. As the ad says, it is more than a lifestyle with us!
