The next sessions of our popular group class “First Steps: 7 Weeks to a Lifetime of Friendship” start in less than 2 weeks - so sign up now!
You can choose between:
💚 Wednesdays at 4pm starting April 2nd
💚 Thursdays at noon starting April 3rd
💚 Fridays at 11am starting April 4th

This class is a 7-week adventure with your dog, designed to help you build a strong, joyful relationship with your best friend while teaching essential manners that will enhance your everyday life together. This class focuses on building a solid foundation of trust and communication between you and your dog. From improving basic obedience to handling real-life situations, you’ll have the tools to integrate your dog seamlessly into your daily routine, ensuring a lifetime of fun, harmony, and companionship.

Our hearts were stolen by Cora (formerly known as Crystal) on Valentine’s Day in 2023 ❤️. After losing our previous HHDR dog, we were unsure about opening our hearts to another pet. However, when we first met Cora, we felt an instant connection. She spent the night with us, allowing our cat to meet her and give his approval, and we finalized the adoption the next day.

Cora is naturally shy around new people and took some time to adjust. The morning after her arrival, she climbed into bed with us, as if to say, “Thank you for saving me.” Despite her shyness with humans, she loves her doggy friends and has made many during her two years with us.

She enjoys running in the yard, chasing rabbits, and playing with her Jolly Ball. As a vigilant window watcher, she keeps us informed about neighborhood happenings. Cora is the ultimate lap dog, showcasing the classic “Catahoula lean.” We even discovered through a DNA test that she is 100% Catahoula Leopard Dog! 🐾

All of a sudden, the first day of Spring has come and gone! But are you and your dog ready for the warmer weather? Is going out in public with your dog sometimes stressful? Are you envious of other dog’s good behavior in public? Does training your dog by yourself seem daunting and overwhelming? We welcomed Nellie into our family on February 13, 2015, and since then, she has become our everything! This spirited pup absolutely adores riding in the truck, her ears flapping joyfully in the breeze as we journey together. She has a cozy bed in every room of our home, but her favorite places to snuggle are curled up in our warm bed or nestled in the recliner beside us, where she feels most secure.

Life without her is unimaginable! Nellie has a playful spirit; she loves basking in the warm sun, soaking up its rays, and finding the perfect sunbeam to lounge in. One of her favorite outings is a trip to Zem's for a delicious scoop of ice cream, where her excitement is infectious. She brings so much joy and love into our lives!

We adopted Bruce over the summer from a transport service in Texas, and he has quickly settled into his new home, establishing himself as the lovable king of the house. With his adorable mix of Dachshund and Corgi features, Bruce brings a unique charm to our lives. He delights in digging through the yard, snuggling up on the couch, and engaging in energetic games of fetch that often leave us in fits of laughter.

As he adjusts to the snowy winters here in New York, his first birthday was a special occasion filled with joy and celebration. Bruce eagerly explored his new surroundings, discovering the wonders of winter while making many furry friends along the way. He is utterly spoiled with attention and treats, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Bruce has truly become the perfect addition to our family, bringing boundless love and happiness into our lives!

Polo found his family on last week’s transport day! Are you ready to adopt a dog? The first step - fill out an application! Once your application is fully processed you are welcome to come in and meet our dogs during our business hours. You cannot visit, hold, walk or adopt a dog until your application has been fully processed. Once your application is processed, if there is a particular dog that you are interested in, you can call the Rescue to speak with a staff member to determine if the dog would be a good fit for your environment based on the personality profile provided by the foster home (the full profile is NOT available on our website). If the dog seems like it may be a match, you can reserve the dog to allow you the first opportunity to meet them. It does not obligate you to adopt. Your application is good for six months, but if you have not found your dog within that period of time, you can request that your application be updated and kept active. After one year, you will need to submit a new application. More info on our application process can be found here. https://www.helpinghoundsdogrescue.org/adoption-process

Transport day is a busy day for adoptions, but a key step is the meet and greet with the family dogs. Maxwell met his new dog brother and cousin yesterday, the start of lifelong pup friendships!
