Mick and Rivera at their final session with Never Fear Dog Training! They have made a lot of progress over the past months getting braver and bolder. Yesterday we enjoyed a beautiful decompression walk in the woods :)

Today Mick and Rivera took a special field trip to the horse barn! Mick and Rivera can be a bit timid so we worked on building their confidence by exploring the fields and barns! We met horses, donkeys, a pig, people, and several off leash farm dogs. Way to be brave pups!

I met this little girl, Jolene, last week! 💖 Jolene has big feelings about people entering her house. We practiced small approximations of me coming in and out of the house with lots of cheese involved 🧀 By the end of the session I could leave the house and come back inside without upsetting Jolene. Her mom left a review: "Natalie came over tonight to help us with our extra barky Chihuahua, Jolene. I'm very impressed with how much we learned and how well our girl did in just our first 1 hour consultation. 10/10 highly recommend 👌🏻" Do you have a dog who barks at visitors? I would love to help!

Say hello to my new friend Harley! Harley is a terrier mix and we are working on polite greetings (not jumping up) and loose leash walking! Harley loves to learn 🐾🐶🐕 can't wait to see this guy again this week!

Aww hi Oliver and Ginger! Oliver and Ginger are two young pups working with me and their humans on having a rocket recall! 🚀 These guys get to run at a big off leash dog park but they are not always reliable at coming back. Ginger especially is very invested in tracking and hunting so we are using tools from predation substitute training to meet her need to sniff and track while working with her to be more reliable. Keep it up pups!

Yikes.

Wow. Please don’t ever sign an agreement like this with a trainer or training company - or ANY service company for that matter.

If your trainer is censoring how you speak publicly about them and the quality and outcomes of their services, you shouldn't hire them.

Aww hi Ellie! Ellie is my new German Shepherd client 😍 she's working on emergence recall so her people can call her away from chasing behaviors when she goes off leash for exercise at the field nearby. Ellie is also an undersocialized pandemic pup and fearful of the vet so we are coming up with strategies to help her feel safe and grow her trusted inner circle.

Today Daisy worked on watching a stuffed dog walk passed by her house (fake dog movement courtesy of her person). Daisy gets really excited when she sees dogs on her leash or through the window, so much so that she barks and lunges at the dogs. We played Look At That and Up Down, two of my favorite training games for leash reactivity. Way to go Daisy Dog!! 🐶🐾🐕🐾

Not the best picture but at least I finally remembered to take a picture 😅 here is Reese pup who is learning to walk on a leash! Reese is a 6 month old German shepherd mix and he is a love! I am so excited to be working with a puppy -- my favorite 🐾 Reese's people are setting him up for success with his 5-session training package! We will cover recall, loose leash walking, focus and attention, and finding appropriate outlets for Reese's adolescent energy. We chose these goals based on his family's priorities. 🙌

Say hello to one of my new Syracuse clients, Elcie pup!! She's the sweetest. We are working with her on leash reactivity around other dogs. First we are building some foundation skills and management strategies with her:

🐾 Loose leash walking
🐶 Magnet hand
🐕 Emergency U-turn
🦴 Nose to hand target
🐾 Pattern games

Next we will work on implementing these skills at a far distance from other dogs to help Elcie build new skills and feel safer. More to come soon on Elcie pup!

I keep forgetting to take pictures but I started training dog in Syracuse, NY! I have some lovely clients including a GSD mix, a yellow lab, and two beautiful Great Danes! We are hard at work on loose leash walking, mat training, polite greetings, recall, and more. I will post pictures soon but for now enjoy this autumnal picture of Ava in Oakwood Cemetery 😁🐾🐶🐕‍🦺

Never Fear Dog Training has a new website www.neverfeardogtraining.com and we are moving to Syracuse NY! I will be starting an MA program in the Department of Geography and the Environment this fall at Syracuse University and taking new dog training clients starting end of July or August. I have stopped taking new clients in PA and will be wrapping up with current clients by early July. I so appreciate everyone who has worked with me in PA. My clients and their dogs have been amazing and taught me so much. I am excited to take the skills I've learned to a new city! I am a certified dog trainer through the IAABC!! It's so exciting to have my first certification! For my certification I had to have 2 years of experience training dogs, 3 letters of recommendation from clients and another dog training professional, and complete an exam.
"The IAABC Accredited credential indicates a trainer with a sound foundation in the principles and practices of animal training as well as the ability to apply this skill set to a wide range of behavior issues."

I have a confession: golden retrievers are not my favorite breed. But this beautiful golden has been brightening my days 🌻🌞. JJ and his person are working on his recall, keeping four paws on the floor when greeting people, and loose leash walking. JJ is one of the quickest learners I have had the pleasure to work with and he is the biggest sweetheart. We are walking JJ on 2 attached leashes to give him more freedom to sniff and explore without pulling!

On Sunday I took Ava to her second pack walk with Walking Tails (a Meet Up group). My goal with taking her to these is to work on her engagement with me around dogs and to learn that other dogs are not such a BIG deal. For context, Ava is not fearful of other dogs and I would not recommend doing something like this with a fearful dog. Ava IS fearful of people but does well in this sort of context as long as the people ignore her and don't try to pet her. I'm sharing these videos to show how even after 2 years of training, Ava still has wild moments and I look more like a person holding on for dear life than a professional dog trainer. Molly has always been a free pup running through the grass and hills. Since her family moved from a more rural setting to the suburbs she has discovered a world of triggers! Her people don't have a fence for her so we have been hard at work on recall, paying attention to her people and disengaging from her triggers when nieghbors and other dogs go by, as well as checking in with her people and not wandering away. She has made great progress amd gained confidence. Way to go Molly and team! This morning I took my dog Ava out on her first ever pack walk with a Meet Up group called Walking Tails. I was nervous because Ava has a history of human-directed reactivity and leash frustration. But she did great! She was able to disengage from the dogs and offer me lots of check-ins when the other dogs got excited. I've been working with Hudson the golden and his mom on Hudson's fence chasing behavior whenever dogs go by. This was the best Hudson has done. Donutz does not like to go inside. So we are teaching him to hand target by the door and rewarding him with his favorite thing: PLAY! When he does go in, he gets more favorite things: more play and toys and then a licki mat to calm down.
