Did you know that adopting two kittens instead of just one may actually be much easier and more beneficial for both you and the kittens? Kittens learn from their mother, their environment, and from each other. Kitten-to-kitten interaction and playtime are actually valuable educational opportunities to help them develop important social skills that will be needed later in life. They learn how to communicate and interpret each other’s signals, how hard to bite (or not to bite!) during playtime, and how to share territory. So much learning and socialization take place in the early part of a kitten’s life. If you adopt a pair, the socialization can continue and they can create security and comfort for each other.
Kittens learn from each other. There are so many lessons taking place as kittens stalk, play, leap, climb, tumble, use their claws, practice posturing, etc. Since they also learn by observation, a pair of kittens will help each other through this education. This applies to everything from using the litter box to what objects are safe to land on and what ones aren’t. A more inquisitive kitten may help a more reluctant kitten to blossom.
Kittens are curious and crave constant stimulation. A single kitten may become bored and entertain itself by chewing on plants, climbing drapes and furniture, unrolling toilet paper, or exploring electrical cords and sockets. It is less likely that kittens who live with other kittens will engage in these dangerous and destructive behaviors. It’s normal and appropriate for kittens to “play bite” and wrestle with each other. Without a litter mate or other kitten to play with, a kitten will bite and wrestle with you. If your kitten grows up with another kitten, they'll teach each other how to appropriately play and quickly learn what is unacceptable. Kittens are active at night. A single kitten may awaken you with jumping, pouncing and other hunting behavior. However, two kittens will occupy each other by finding interesting shad
