Phew! Despite the cold of last few weeks, we managed to prep beautiful greens: Pac choi, chard, kale, collard, arugula, spinach, and gimat bunches of rosemary. There will be some staples (carrots, potatoes, onions, garlic, lemon).

Oh, have you ever tried out purple top turnips (AKA our farm manager's favorite) yet? They are wonderful root crop that keeps your body nourished in the cold season :) Don't know what to do with them? Ask Kayo at the farm stand for cooking tips!!

“Do you close the farm once the summer ends?” Many ask this question when they visit us during the growing season, and our answer is simply “No, we just become slower but certainly keep going”.

Between December to February, when our city remains covered by snow, we do a lot of reflecting on the past season and brainstorm how to improve ourselves for the coming season. Everyday, all/some of us sit to squeeze our brains hard. We know it is vitally important to face and examine the reality of our operation, vision where we would like to be, and then plan actions to bring ourselves close to the vision, even for an inch at a time.

A lot happened at Brady Farm in the 2024 growing season**********
-Ran urban farm apprenticeship program with 3 apprentices completing the program, and we employed ten other seasonal farmworkers.
-Worked with 4 youth from CNY Works during summer months
-Worked with over 197 volunteers from local/out of state schools, corporations, individuals
-Participated in Onondaga County On-Farm fest and greeted over 100 people
-Built a new Barn that can provide indoor washing/packing space and market/community event area
-Gave 6 educational group tours to local youth, and reached 217 youth
-Pumped out average 70 half bushel boxes of produce weekly to our clients and more through three weekly farm stands between June and October
-Donated over 400 lbs of produce to local churches, organizations, individuals, and public events
-Harvested 9500 lbs of produce for sale
-107 families received 100% free produce boxes at least 10 times
-Started building our fourth high tunnel…

A winter greeting to you all!

Working alongside plants is inspiring. Despite the lack of day light, a-inch-tall seedlings we planted in late October have been slowly but surely growing into their 'adult stage'. This Saturday, we are going to send some of these 'young-adult' Asian greens to the market stand. Rosemary we planted inside our high tunnel two years ago grown into prominent bushes and found flowering when our staff uncovered them one winter morning. Oh, not to mention rainbow chard, how their electric colorful stems add delight to our day.

May your soul and stomach be filled with nourishment and deliciousness!!

Today, we donated our winter greens - kale, collard, turnip greens, arugula - to Blodgett middle school to be used for their holiday food distribution. Huge thanks to the school staff (right in the picture) for making this connection and bridging the farm and youth at Blodgett. We wish our greens will nourish them and their families!

Meet this beautiful Asian mustard green, Mizuna, just harvested this morning from our field! Slender crunchy stems and mildly spicy leaves are great for salad or tossed into soup upon serving!

We are going to prep the stretch of field next to two high tunnels for garlic planting. At some point of the day, Kayo will give you a tour and show how we winterize our field (we will slow our production down but definitely keep growing delicious veggies for y'all throughout this winter).
