Cuse Pit Crew Don't take PITy. Take action.

At the heart of Cuse Pit Crew is our offering of preventative programs, aimed at reducing the number of pit bull-type dogs that are abused or end up in shelters, while increasing adoptions and responsible pet ownership.

July is Disability Pride Month, and we’re highlighting how animal welfare and disability justice go paw-in-paw.💙
At Cuse Pit Crew, we know that pets are family and for many people with disabilities, they’re essential for daily support, mental health, and independence. That’s why our Keep Us Together (K*T) program exists: to help individuals in crisis keep their beloved pets home where they belong. 🫂
Want to support the cause? Here’s how:
1️⃣ Donate to K*T at https://cusepitcrew.org/get-involved/donate/ to help families facing hardship stay together
2️⃣ Follow organizations such as who train service dogs & advocate for disabled independence.
3️⃣ Speak out against fake service dogs! They make life harder for people who rely on real ones
4️⃣ Push for accessible vet care & shelters because care should be for everyone

Confused about the difference between service dogs, emotional support animals, and therapy pets?

We were heartbroken to learn that Mikayla, founder of Saveafox Corporation, died by su***de this week. She was relentlessly bullied online, much of it by peers in the animal rescue community.

We fight every day for dogs who are bullied unfairly, especially pit bulls. Yet too often, we turn on each other with criticism, shame, and harsh words. It’s heartbreaking and it’s got to stop.

Most people are good, and they're just trying their best in this chaotic world.

Animal welfare work is already emotionally exhausting. When cruelty comes from within the community, the weight can be unbearable. Online bullying isn’t just mean, it’s dangerous. It has real, permanent consequences.

We need to extend the same compassion to one another that we show the animals. Please check in on your people. Be kind. Choose empathy.

If we see any comments attacking individuals on our social media, they will be deleted and the person will be blocked. We have zero tolerance for bullying.

If you’re struggling, you’re not alone. You can call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline—24/7, free and confidential.

Rest easy, Mikayla. 🦊❤️

💔 Sometimes, the hardest part of escaping an abusive situation isn’t just leaving, it’s knowing your beloved pet is left behind, vulnerable, and in danger.

We recently stepped in when a survivor of domestic violence needed help. Their dog, who had been through so much already, needed surgery to make the move to safety possible. Thanks to the incredible collaboration of social services and law enforcement, we provided the care this dog needed.

This wasn't the first call like this, and we know it won't be the last.

Keeping pets and people together during a crisis is more than just a mission; it’s a lifeline. Every donation to our Keep Us Together program makes it possible for us to continue answering these calls and offering support to both humans and animals when they need it most.

Your generosity ensures that families don’t have to choose between their safety and their pets. Please consider donating today and help us provide more life-changing support: https://cusepitcrew.org/programs/keep-us-together/

🐾 Yesterday we had the best time visiting Cicero Elementary to teach a Humane Education lesson all about dog bite prevention and safety!

The second graders were full of great questions and eager to learn how to safely meet and interact with dogs. Huge thanks to Pet Partners of CNY and volunteer Carol and her amazing therapy dog Brandie for joining us! Brandie was the real star, showing kids exactly how to approach a new dog respectfully and gently. 🐶💛

Humane education like this helps build a more compassionate and safe community for people and pets. By teaching kids kindness, empathy, and safety skills early on, we’re helping create the next generation of responsible pet guardians.

Want to support lessons like this in more schools? Donate to our Humane Education Program today: https://cusepitcrew.org/get-involved/donate/

💛 Huge thanks to everyone who donated to our Keep Us Together program! We were running low on cat supplies, and so many of you answered the call.

Last week, we dropped off donations and got to meet Scar. He's a big orange floof whose dad rescued him at just three weeks old. He got him neutered, kept him safe, and three years later, Scar is living his best life.

This is why this program matters. No one should have to give up a beloved pet just because times are hard. Your donations help families stay together and keep pets like Scar right where they belong: home.

We’re always in need of dry cat food and other supplies. Want to help? Donate here and put "Keep Us Together": https://cusepitcrew.org/get-involved/donate/

💛 Thank you for making a difference.
(Also… those eyes 😻)

🐾 We need your help! 🐾

Our Keep Us Together program supports families in our community who’ve fallen on hard times but are doing everything they can to keep their beloved pets. Right now, we’re especially low on dry cat food, and we’re asking for your help to keep bowls full and families together.

If you’re able to donate a bag (or two!) of hard cat food, you’ll be making a real difference for a local cat and their human.

Donate to the Keep Us Together program here, and we'll do the cat food shopping: https://cusepitcrew.org/get-involved/donate/

Thank you for helping us support pet families who just need a little help to stay whole. 💛🐱

🎉 A huge win for dogs across NY!

Cuse Pit Crew is thrilled to share that the New York Legislature has just passed A.893/S.364—a powerful, bipartisan bill that prohibits renters insurance companies from discriminating against tenants based solely on their dog’s breed!

✅ What it does: Insurance companies can no longer deny, cancel, or hike premiums on renters insurance simply because someone owns a specific dog breed or mix.

✅ Why it matters: Unlike homeowners who gained protection in 2021–22, renters still faced unfair barriers—sometimes being forced to give up their beloved pets or pay exorbitant rates just to secure a place to live .

✅ A win for fairness: This change levels the playing field for responsible tenants who just happen to share their homes with furry family members—removing an unjust hurdle in the rental market.

This wouldn’t have happened without the leadership of Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal and Senator Michael Gianaris, along with tireless advocates from animal protection groups across the state!

🐕 To our fellow renters and dog lovers: This is your win! No more choosing between your home and your hound. As this bill heads to the Governor’s desk, we’re confident it’ll soon be law—bringing peace of mind to countless pet families across NY.

Let’s celebrate this milestone and keep championing fair and pet-friendly policies for all. 🧡

Our Story

Our Strategy: 1) Offer free humane education at community centers, schools, and public service agencies.

2) Facilitate political action with a goal of strengthening laws that will protect dogs.

3) Provide other animal welfare services and resources when available.

4) Partner with the Syracuse-based agencies that care for the city’s homeless dogs by offering volunteer and other professional support in an effort to increase pit bull adoptions.
