Messing around this morning with one of our personal dogs, Jet.
Jet is a 2 yr old Australian Cattle Dog that was born deaf and he is seriously is one of the sweetest dogs!
Deaf dogs can learn all the same skills as dogs that can hear. Being deaf does not change a puppy or dog’s ability to learn, but it does change how they receive information.
Instead of listening for commands, deaf dogs learn by looking for cues, such as, hand signals and body language, using their sense of smell, and touch.

This was so good for my soul… being able to take my dog Stevie with us on a beautiful fall morning ride. The sound, smells and the sights! This video doesn’t show just how beautiful most of the foliage was.
Fun fact about me is I own horses and one of favorite things is to go out and ride. Especially with amazing trail buddies.

Maya is back for additional training including off leash obedience.
At the beginning of this year Maya stayed with me for a puppy board and train. Working with her now, she has showed me how well her owner has kept on her training which has helped her progress greatly.
Puppies never come home fully trained. A foundation and skills have been set and it’s the owners who have to continue to work and manage through puppyhood into adulthood.

Maya here is on her last week with me and so we took her training to a new but somewhat quiet environment to work her obedience and manners.
It’s important to me that when I take a puppy or dog to dog friendly stores that it’s during the slower hours.
I want the experience to be a successful and positive for both of us. I also want them to be able to look to me for guidance and to be successful in what we are working on.
If a store is too busy and both the dog and their person aren’t ready, we risk it being a negative experience for both us and our dogs. We can become stressed and our dogs can either become overwhelmed or over-stimulated as well, which can cause the dogs to not be aware of or respond to us.

Dogs thrive on routines!
If you have a consistent routine you’ll find your dog automatically doing some of things that are apart of their routines.
Every time 4 month old Finn and his Mom walk back in from outside, she has him sit on the rug to wait for her. After a few weeks, Finn now lays or sits on the rug on his own and stays till he is released.
I am pretty proud of both of them for creating this on their own!
