Puget Sound Pet Food Bank

Puget Sound Pet Food Bank Would you give up a meal to feed your pet? You don't have to! To our knowledge, we are the only strictly-pet-food bank in the area. in Tacoma.

Puget Sound Food Bank opened in January of 2013 as CSL-Tacoma Pet Food Bank, with the goal of assisting homeless and low income pet owners in the greater Tacoma and South King County area who need help taking care of their pets. We have grown rapidly from a “neighborhood pet food bank” and are now serving clients from Bonney Lake to Lakewood, Graham, Spanaway and neighboring communities. We are se

rving an average of 50-55 families each Saturday, distributing approximately 2,500 pounds of dog and cat kibble, and 650 cans of canned food each month. We operate entirely on donations and are staffed by a small group of dedicated volunteers, with no salaried staff. In 2015, we reorganized as a separate non-profit 501(c)3 organization under the name Puget Sound Pet Food Bank, and moved to a larger location on Sixth Ave. We also opened an additional location in Spanaway

It is with great sadness that we announce we will be closing our Tacoma food bank location. Our last day of service in Tacoma will be Saturday, December 28, 2024.

The number of families needing assistance caring for their pets is steadily increasing and putting a strain on our finances. While we continue to receive in-kind and monetary donations (THANK YOU !!), they are no longer sufficient to feed all the pet families requesting help and cover our operating costs. We now have to buy food every one to two weeks, which is not sustainable.

We are NOT closing the pet food bank; we are just scaling back our operations. We are actively looking for a new home and exploring other options. In the interim, we will be opening our Spanaway location on the second (2nd) and fourth (4th) Saturday of each month to accommodate those families impacted by the Tacoma closure. Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer service on Mondays from this facility. We hope this is just temporary and will keep you posted.

Nibble for Kibble 2024 is just 3 weeks away and we need to know if you are coming! This event is our major source of income; it allows us to keep the doors open and provide food for pet owners in need.

This year the requests for help are steadily increasing and far outnumber donations. In August alone, we received 76 applications and served 42 new families. Please be a PET’S HERO and support us if you can – we have some great auction items, music, food and good company!

Please register and get your tickets at https://event.auctria.com/98ced818-6946-463c-b138-3f6c0b5f6a5c

THANK YOU Safeway of Spanaway! We value your donations!

Safeway @15805 Pacific Ave S Tacoma Did an amazing thing and I just wanted to do a shout out to them!

I called them to ask them for a donation of water for our kiddie pools for Dog Days of Spanaway, and not only did they donate 10 cases of water for us.... But they wanted to do more!

The store manager Jim had previously done pet food drives, so real quick (like I called him on MONDAY prior to the event) threw this together, and organized a drive that anyone that wanted to donate could drop an item in the cart and all proceeds went to The Pet Puget Sound Pet Food Bank!

Look at all they collected! We are so grateful to you Jim and Safeway and our Spanaway community!

Tomatoes are a popular garden crop this time of year. However, green tomatoes contain solanine which can put our pets at risk. 🍅 In most cases, we can see gastrointestinal irritation even with a small amount ingested.

Symptoms with larger ingestions can include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, weakness, confusion, dilated pupils, depression, and increased heart rate.

If you suspect your pet has consumed green tomatoes, immediately contact Summit Veterinary Referral Center at (253) 983-1114. You can also connect with the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.

Ahoy there! We need YOU to be a pet’s hero and join us for our annual fundraiser, Nibble for Kibble, on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the Allenmore Golf and Events Center in Tacoma.

We REALLY need your support! The number of families seeking assistance caring for their pets is steadily increasing and putting a strain on our finances. Between June 17 and July 18, 2024, we received 50 new applications for help. While we continue to receive in-kind and monetary donations (THANK YOU!!), they are no longer sufficient to feed all the pets / families needing help and cover our operating costs. We now buy food every one to two weeks, which is not sustainable.
