Our highlight of the week is miss Roxy!
She has been learning the ins and outs of scent detection and she's an absolute natural.
She is searching for a specific scent that she has been trained to look for . When she finds that scent she alerts to it by laying down.
Scent work is an amazing sport for both dog and handler. Roxy is fast on her way to be a very accomplished search dog !

Teaching our puppies it's ok to be independent of us is a valuable skill.
It's a hard one too because they've just come from being around their siblings and momma all the time to being by themselves in a new environment. Be patient and consistent.
It's ok to not have your puppy with you 24/7. In fact it's healthy.
Just make sure that they're in a safe, secure space if you're not supervising them. Whether that's a secure x pen area, soft crate, hard crate or in my case a gated off hallway.
It's 100% ok for you to take breaks from your puppy. They need frequent down time and naps and you need breaks to do the errands and chores around the house. Or just have some quiet down town.
Puppies do take a lot of your time the first few months they're home. They're learning, so be patient. You may need to sacrifice some alone time until they settle in. But remember if you put in the effort up front it pays off :)

Puppy training and socializing is so much more then sit and down.
It's positively exposing puppy to new sights and sounds. Letting them get comfortable with your house and routine before taking the. To mud bay, pets mart or the park. Remember puppies take in everything!! Both good and bad.
Set your puppy up to succeed by going slow and controlling how much your puppy takes in.
15 minutes walks up and down the block for the first few weeks is absolutely ok!
Don't be in a hurry to take your puppy everywhere. You can end up over exposing and flooding your puppy. Causing anxiety and potential fear reactivity as they get older.
We offer a fabulous puppy development course that helps you step by step through the process of bringing a puppy home. Setting you and your pup up for success.

A wonderful alternative to "Fetch" is the flirt pole.
It cultivates handler engagement, impulse control, natural instinct, confidence building, motor function and mental enrichment.
Finn is a 5 month old mini golden doodle. He has energy for days! :)
You can see him getting love and attention in-between sessions. You also see that the second he starts to get over excited and jump, attention is immediately removed and the game is reintroduced. Finn has to show patience and calm before the game starts. He sits and focused on the handler, then boom the exciting toy appears. He's learning cause and effect. Certain actions produce certain out comes. Jumping doesn't receive attention. Patience and calm is rewarded with play and attention.
He's a quick study ;)

Others are 2-5 acres of field or wooded forest for your dog to explore. The price ranges from $5 to $20 dollars depending on what location you pick.
Great alternative to dog parks and doggy daycare.
