I can't believe that once upon a time I was 25 years old, found an abandoned grooming shop for rent, lied to the landlord about having a bunch of money and clients so that he'd rent to me and started a grooming business with a pair of scissors, a table, brush, comb, a hair dryer for people and $1.00 store suave shampoo.

Most of the time with dedication, simplicity works out. 💚

Believe it or not, Max will attack anything that gets too close to his face and neck.

In this case, we do what we can without getting injured. Animal bites to the hands and wrist can actually retire a groomer, and not in a good way. Our hospital bills come out of our own pocket, and so do our time off to recover.

We can always touch up hairs that are out of place on another day as we do guarantee our work, but a dog, especially one with a hard to handle/bite history, can sometimes only take so much in one grooming session.

It amazes me on how many pet owners have troubles getting their own dog to sit for longer than 5 seconds, throw in other distractions like people talking and random dogs being walked back and forth, yet we're expected as a groomer to get a dog fully bathed, dried, nails clipped and fully groomed within 2 or less hours.

(We always ask for 4 hours and will call within that time frame to either pick-up or we'll call to update owner)

We will offer Express Grooms as an add on service and will charge starting this spring. This service will need to be asked for while making the appointment so we can arrange our schedule.

Good for dogs who are not crate trained, puppies, senior, anxious, timid or aggressive dogs.

This is what I've heard from clients numerous times over my years...

"I tried grooming my dog myself, but it takes like 3 days and I still can't get the legs shaved down because he'll bite and struggle to get away from me"

5 month old Niko did great for his haircut!

I love these puppy transformations and teaching them all about grooming tools and how to properly act during a full groom. Getting puppies ready for a lifetime of grooming IS essential.

Hello!

This post is talking a little more about hard to handle and aggressive dogs, which I specialize in grooming.

This is Coco, the dog I posted yesterday explaining about dogs labled as, "hard to handle dog".

The first time Coco came in for grooming he was pelted solid and had to be shaved with a 1/16th of an inch.

Luckily, the owner brought him back in for a grooming at 6-8 weeks, which is the appropriate grooming time recommended, *for a reason* especially for curly coated breeds, and any breed that grows long hair.

Some people may see this as a "scared dog" or give it the soft energy of, "Awww, poor baby doesn't like it"

This is actually a very dominant dog who is intacted which adds frusterated energy to his already dominant behavior.

Another indication that this dog is not scared, when he's put down on the ground he isn't shaking while walking around looking anxious and lost. He also isn't finding a corner to hide. This dog marches around lifting his leg on as many objects as he can to claim territory that isn't his own.

There's no question that dogs with this temperament will cause serious damage if they were to make contact with a groomers hand.

Cute? Yes. Dangerous? Also, yes.

Dogs like this are impossible to get out of a crate without the right experience. I can't even pick this dog up without using the lead to guide his teeth away from my body while he protests and thrashes around uncontrollablely while viciously trying to attack me.

I refer to this behavior as grooming a wild coyote. They are not trained or tamed, and will cause serious damage if he made contact with skin.

They are fast when they decide to bite, I literally have 1-2 seconds to react and get my hand out of the way, otherwise I'll have some pretty bad puncture wounds.

If a dog happens to bite a groomer, we'll live in pain for a good 1-2 weeks, longer for some. For me, my energy level will be low for days due to my body focusing on mending the problem while I tend to my wounds.

Again, I stay calm and allow the dog to throw the punches. Over time, he will eventually tire himself out and I can get a scissor snip or two in to finish my job slowly but surely.

These dogs require patience, years of experience, willingness to groom, knowing dog behavior and body language.

This is a video of a very unpredictable grooming dog who usually lashes out at me at any give time.

Most grooming shops turn these types of dogs away. I know of groomers who had to retire due to a single bite to the hand or wrist.

Some groomers may think the right way to deal with this type of behavior would be to yell at the dog. That will only amplifying the aggressive behavior.

The best thing to do is calmly groom the dog along with my 20+ years of animal handling experience I can get most every dog that comes my way groomed.

This dog would be considered a hard to handle, unpredictable, dangerous dog.

If a small dog were to be fully sedated and groomed by a groomer working at a vet clinic, a owner would be expected to pay $450.00-$750.00.

Only cool rodents get to ride shotgun to the grooming shop... Barney is cool. 😎

You may not know this, but rats make excellent pets.

Easy to care for, very clean, and intelligent creatures. Pet rats can be trained to do tricks, and they'll can even be trained to come to their name.

They love to explore and when tired rats will lay down next to their human while watching TV, a lot like a small dog.

They love snacks, and a comfortable blanket to nest in.

I understand a lot of people view wild rats as pests, which yes, they can be for some.

If you're having a problem with wild rats, make sure not to throw food in your yard for other animals, because surely a rat will come over to visit and eat.

There are PLENTY of humane traps or devices to keep rodents away.

DO NOT put out poison!

You'll be poisoning more than just a hungry or curious rat.

If a bird of prey, or other animal such as a squirrel, chipmunk, raccoon, opossum, your cat or your dog, eats the poison or poisoned rat, they too, will become sick and more than likely die.

Deadly disgusting rat snap traps will also cause death to other animals including birds.

If you feed birds, just know that you'll be feeding other neighborhood animals as well, so keep that in mind before putting out food of any kind.

If you run across any kind of orphaned wildlife this upcoming spring, message me right away for assistance for bringing it to a licensed rehabber to get the help and care that it needs.

I have includeded some screenshots. A thick glass is best when it comes to toxins, but due your own research if you're thinking about using another material for a bowl.

When I was shopping at Nature Boys Farm and Feed Pet Supplies Store, located in Spanaway WA, Rich the owner had a warning about pet food bowls.

Most of us pet owners probably don't even think about it, a bowl is a bowl, but our animals could be getting sick due to most toxic plastics, and other materials.

I can't believe the amount of people who allow their animals to chew on plastic. Get rid of them for the safety of your pet.

(BPA is found in many plastic products, and unfortunately, it can leach into foods and beverages and then be absorbed in the body.

Rich the owner is extremely knowledgeable about several species of animals, and their nutritional needs.

He researches the source of each product that he sells in his store to make sure that the product is 100% natural, safe and healthy for your beloved pets.

Over the years, I've been asked numerous questions about animal health ranging from dogs and cats, to caged animals, to wildlife.

I've directed these clients with questions to their vet for answers. I found that the problem is most veterinarians, like human doctors, are quick to write a prescription for pills or shots (narcotics/chemicals) to "cure" the problem.

What we need to do as pet owners is switch all of our pets to the most purest and nutritional pet food along with an exercise plan, this alone will cut down on 80-90% of health and behavioral related issues.

I would much rather spend a few extra bucks on a clean nutritious food from a small business who actually cares about animals and their well-being. Also, maintaining your pets health at home will cut down on vet bills as well.

Cheap grocery store pet food and most big chain pet stores that we were brainwashed to trust, do not care about your pet like they claim on their fancy advertising schemes.

Make a conscious pet food switch and share to spread the awareness so that we can put a stop to slowly poisoning our own pets!

My new goal is to educate people about the importance of keeping up on pet health and the cautions about the products we use around our pets.

Here are a bunch of pictures of comfortable cats, dogs, and small mammals lounging around their own home.

Please don't put your animal through a stressful situation when there's the option for a trustworthy pet sitter to come to your home to take care of your pets, and check on your home, flowers and mail.

Boarding your sensitive cat, means you will have to trap it in a small carrier, which they hate, car ride, which they hate, carry them into a unfamiliar building, which is extremely scary, hand them over to unfamiliar people, which is traumatizing, and then your cat is trapped in a small enclosure.
