❄️ Keep your furry friends cozy during cold weather ❄️

As the temperatures drop, it's important to remember that our pets feel the cold too. Here are a few tips to keep your furry friends safe and warm:
✔️ If you're cold, they're cold. Shorten walks and playtime when temperatures drop significantly.
✔️ Salt, ice, and other chemicals can irritate their paws, so wipe their paws clean after walks.
✔️ Provide cozy blankets and beds in warm spots of the house.
✔️ Ensure adequate food and water as pets need more of both when it's cold because keeping warm uses more energy.
✔️ Never leave pets in cars. Cars can act as refrigerators and rapidly chill your pet.

While it’s best to keep your pets indoors, if you have outdoor pets, you must provide a windproof shelter with three solid sides and a solid roof. During the colder months, you must fill the space with towels, blankets, and/or hay to help them stay warm. Additionally, check and replace water daily as it may have frozen.

Antifreeze (ethylene glycol) is found in products such as car screen wash, brake and radiator fluid. If it’s swallowed (even in small amounts), it’s extremely toxic and causes fatal damage to the kidneys and nervous system. Unfortunately, ethylene glycol is naturally sweet which, is why our pets are often tempted to drink it from leaky car radiators or driveway spillages.

Should your pet ingest this, the ASPA Pet Poison Control Hotline should be called at (888) 426-4435 and the Veterinary Emergency Center of Manchester on Brown Avenue can be reached at (603) 666-6677. If you are not located in Manchester, we would recommend calling the nearest Emergency Hospital.

🎇 Fireworks may be fun for us, but many pets are afraid of the thunderous sounds from fireworks. To help keep your pets safe, follow these tips:

🐾 Tire them out with a walk or playtime before the fireworks start.
🐾 Keep pets secure inside so they don’t run away.
🐾 Give pets access to a quiet room with familiar toys and blankets.
🐾 Play music or turn on a tv for background noise to help keep pets calm.
🐾 Make sure pets have a microchip or ID tag in case they do escape.

RECALL ALERT - The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) is alerting pet owners that samples of Northwest Naturals brand 2lb Turkey Recipe raw & frozen pet food tested positive for a H5N1 strain of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) virus.

Northwest Naturals, a Portland, Oregon-based company, is voluntarily recalling its Northwest Naturals brand 2lb Feline Turkey Recipe raw & frozen pet food. The recalled product is packaged in 2-pound plastic bags with “Best if used by” dates of 05/21/26 B10 and 06/23/2026 B1. The product was sold nationwide through distributors in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, MD, MI, MN, PA, RI and WA in the United States, and British Columbia in Canada.
