You’ve probably heard of the unusual respiratory illness seen in dogs lately (some of you may have even experienced something similar in your own pets). This article was written by a veterinary colleague and has some great information on what we know so far, and ways to help minimize your dog’s risk. She’s located in North Carolina, but the information is relevant to our area as well.

We are doing everything we can to minimize the risk to our patients boarding with us - including increased sanitization procedures, continuing to ensure all boarding pets are up to date on the core vaccines, and isolating any dogs showing signs of respiratory illness to help minimize contact with other patients. Even with these measures in place, it is important to remember that many respiratory diseases are highly contagious and spread easily through the air, so there are elements about it that we cannot control. If your dog develops signs of respiratory illness while in our care, they will be isolated to help minimize spread, and treated (which may require medications be administered while they are here) to reduce complications of the disease.

Boarding pets, doggie daycare, and dog parks are areas where our pets are in close proximity to other pets, which may increase their risk of exposure. We have had several patients that had NO HISTORY of close contct with other dogs who have still contracted respiratory disease.

We will keep you updated as more information is delivered to us

Truss Vet is providing the latest news and medical updates on the canine respiratory disease outbreaking spreading across the country and to North Carolina.

This week we’re celebrating all our wonderful employees, but especially our amazing techs! They are the real heroes working behind-the-scenes to make sure your pet is cared for to the highest standards. They often skip lunches, stay late, and put in 110% to give your pet the best experience and best outcome possible. Please take a moment to thank them in the comments below if you have a fond memory of working with them! 🐾 ❤️

We also wanted to say thank you to our wonderful clients who have already brought treats in to the clinic to give them your thanks! You and your pets are the reason they are here!

One of our wonderful clients found this kitten in the middle of the road a last week and is looking for a home for him. We think he is about 7 weeks old and she tells us he's quite the cuddle bug!

From her email: "I am a client of the practice and last week found a stray kitten. He is solid gray and approximately 6 weeks old. Pictures attached. He is sweet and loves to cuddle and would put a smile on anyone's face. I cannot keep him as my senior cat is upset having another animal in the house. If you know of anyone who would be interested in having this soft gray bundle be a part of their family please pass my contact info."

If you are interested, please text our office at ‪(850) 895-9566 and I will get you her contact info.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

July 4th is approaching fast and many of our patients experience severe signs of noise phobia during this time. Does your dog tremble, hide in the corner or under tables, chew at his crate/enclosure? We can help to reduce or eliminate the fear and reaction to these scary noises. There are several treatment options available, including a trans-mucosal product called Sileo (that means no forcing down pills!). If you would like more information please call our office (893-5636) or e-mail us ([email protected] ATTN: Dr. Rodriguez). Please note our lobby is still closed to the public but we are open and doing curbside service, so no need to come inside the building to pick up the medications.
Thank you and Happy 4th!

Dear valued clients: to best serve you as well as do our part to slow the spread of COVID 19 we have implemented the following alternative services:

1) "Curb Side" Appointments
- Call us when you arrive (850-893-5636)
- We will send someone to your car to get your pet. We will have minimal face to face contact and will maintain distance.
- We will then have a doctor call your cell phone to go over history and decide on what the next steps for care will be.
- You can choose to wait in your vehicle until we are finished (approximately 20-30 minutes) or you can come back and pick them up later - please let us know your choice when we come out to get your pet.
- We will check you out over the phone at the end of the visit with credit/debit.

2) Drive-Thru Prescription Pick-Up
- Call when you arrive and we will bring your prescription and food refills to your car.
- Please be sure to call ahead to have these filled before you arrive to minimize wait time.

3) Drop-Off Appointments
- Drop off your pet to be examined and then pick up later in the day.
- Pets must be dropped off before 3PM and picked up by 6PM

* ALL CATS MUST BE IN CARRIERS * ALL DOGS MUST BE ON A LEASH *

If you choose to come in for a regular appointment we will do our best to minimize your contact with other people by placing you directly into a clean exam room or asking you to wait in your vehicle until a clean exam room becomes available. The doctor may take your pet to the treatment room (adjacent to the exam room) to do the examination and will speak with you through the open door.

As always, we strive to keep our clinic very clean. We promise to continue to sanitize frequently and thoroughly.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during these unusual times!
