🐾 Meet Maggie! 281 days a shelter dog!🐾
This sweet girl has been on quite the journey, but her story is far from over. Maggie has been in foster care for 3 months now, slowly but surely coming out of her shell. 🌟 Despite being a bit shy and nervous at first, she's a bundle of love waiting to blossom in the right home. 🌸
In Maggie's own words (as translated by her foster parent!): "I'm crate trained, potty trained, and I love chasing balls and playing with my furry pals! 🎾🐶 I'm a smarty pants and I absolutely adore snuggles. I might think I'm a lap dog, but hey, who can resist some good cuddles? 💕 Oh, and sticks? They're my jam! 🌳"
But wait, there's more! Maggie's foster parent can't help but gush: "She's a joy to have around and has so much love to give. She's improving every day in new situations, and she's respectful with my cat, though a bit unsure around shy felines."
Remember, Maggie's adopter should be patient as she'll need time to acclimate to her new surroundings. And while she loves playing with other dogs, she'd thrive best with a furry friend who enjoys playtime on the same level. 🐾 Let's find this sweet pup her forever home. 🏡❤️

**shelter pet spotlight!**
All dogs respond to life at the shelter differently. For many, including Silky, it is very stressful. So stressful, in fact, that following Silky’s spay surgery, she was having an extremely difficult time recovering and allowing herself to properly heal. Enter a really phenomenal foster home that opened their home temporarily while not traveling for work to provide respite care so Silky could recover in a relaxed, non-stressful environment. Silky has now fully recovered and it’s time for her to move on to her forever home quickly - as she will need to return to the shelter on June 17th. She has absolutely flourished in a home environment and now knows, “there’s no place like home.”
Her foster home reports she is hilarious, sweet, cautious, and adorable. She is easy to walk on leash, crate trained (totally calm and quiet), and nearly house trained (can’t blame a girl for getting excited when she meets new people!). She gives the best hugs and loves her people, sticks, cuddling, wrestling with other dogs, sticks (she really likes them), making silly faces, zoomies, and pretending to be a person. Silky is unsure of new people, but will settle with treats and love and patience. Silly’s foster believes she would do “great in a house that doesn't mind continuing to help her learn some manners about being around people and who will encourage her bravery, curiosity, and adventure.” Silky loves other pups, and will likely do well with cats - although she is not currently living with one.

Kiwi has an anniversary coming up. On November 9th, she will have the sad distinction of being a shelter pup for a whole year. Kiwi is a phenomenal creature that just happens to check the boxes of our hardest to place pups. She's black. She's female. She's a pittie. She's not a puppy (she's 6). She's energetic. She's choosy about her dog friends and doesn't like cats. Add that all together and you have the recipe for a super long shelter stay. What people are missing is that she's also housebroken and trustworthy in the house alone. She's super smart. She's cuddly. She's petite. She LOVES water. She's hilarious and eager to please. A year in the life of Pretty Nala
Today's the day we really, really, really hoped wouldn't come. Today is Pretty Nala's one year anniversary of becoming a shelter dog.
Admittedly - she's got some strikes against her. She's a pittie. She's a she. She wants to be an only child. She has finicky skin. We knew it was going to be tough to find her a home - but a YEAR?
We KNOW that there's somebody out there that needs this girl in their life. We just KNOW it - and we want YOU to help us find them. Please share with your friends and neighbors and acquaintances. Make sure to tell them that she's never met a person she didn't like, and she's house trained and joyful and silly and smart. Make sure to tell them that she LOVES snacks and walks and just laying at your feet getting belly rubs. Make sure they know that she loves to burrow under blankies and is good in the bathtub and the car. Make sure that they know that she's worth any extra effort, and will reward them with unconditional love.

Chanel is shy and Lizzo is outgoing, but the differences between these two pups end there. Both pups have been shelter pups for WAY too long (Chanel has been with us since June and Lizzo has been with us since March). Both gals are pitties, a breed that is a bit harder for us to place. Both have a dedicated team of volunteers that are helping them work out their quirks and are madly in love with them, and finally – both pups are deserving of their “forever” at Tallahassee Animal Services. **Update 8/9/20 - Kirby has been adopted! **
It took awhile, but Kirby is finally getting the hang of this "being a pet" thing - thanks to an AMAZING foster mom who has thrown her heart and soul into making this 1 1/2 year old Bull Terrier Mix all he could be. Kirby is now ready for his "happily ever after" in a home that will keep his mind and body engaged. He loves to jog with his person, will snuggle at night and LOVES to train. He's a genius. Unfortunately - his foster mom will be leaving town at the end of August, and we'd LOVE to find him his forever home before then!
