Open Division Cash Prizes: $300, $200, $100. Open Division and Youth Division winners will also receive prizes provided by Flint River Outfitters. Thinking about getting a turkey mounted this year? Things you need to know.

Taking care of your bird is the most important thing a turkey hunter can do.

Do’s and Don’ts

Do:

Make head shots only.
Get to the bird as soon as possible and pick up by head to prevent any feather loss/damage from flopping.
Stick a paper towel in the mouth of the bird and wrap the head with additional paper towels.
Place the head in a zip lock bag and tape shut.
Keep bird as clean as possible.
Keep feathers laying flat and smooth.
Protect tail from being bent or damaged.
Put head first in large trash bag and tie.
Get the bird to taxidermist or put bird in a cooler/freezer, gently and as soon as possible.

DON’T:

Shoot in full strut.
Step on head.
Let bird flop excessively.
Wrap in pantyhose.
Breast out or cut on bird in any way.
Leave on back of truck or in sun for long periods of time.
Leave in cooler in melted ice water.
Drive down the road with bird on back of truck, wind can cause damage.

Had a great time this past weekend @ the Florida State Taxidermists Association annual convention. A lot of beautiful birds were entered to be judged. Heading to the Georgia Taxidermists Association convention the end of the month.
