You can trail ride like it's the 1830s right here in Tallahassee! At Crazy 8 Ranch, we take you through the Apalachicola National Forest, which is the largest U.S. National Forest in the state of Florida. You'll enter near the side of Ft. Braden.
On December 3, 1839, Fort Braden was established as a military fort during the Second Seminole War.
Did you know that Florida has the longest history of ranching of any state in the United States? We celebrate our history and the cultural importance of ranching that has changed since cattle first arrived with the earliest Spanish explorers more than 400 years ago by riding these trails and taking a glimpse of some of the same sites they would've seen.
Some of the trees may be taller, but the vast, untamed wilderness, dense shrubs, sometimes extreme heat, insects, thunderstorms, and/or hurricane winds, that previous generations endured, we too experience.
There is something freeing and connects you to the land when you're on top of a powerful animal like a horse, riding in the wilderness. Even more so when you have the privilege of riding one of our rescues who have gone through trauma and yet, can learn to trust humans again and let you trust that they will keep you safe out on the trail.
Come take a ride with tradition.
