✨ Official Announcement: Queen Silkee’s Retirement ✨

Our beloved Queen Silkee has retired from cafĆ© life! šŸ‘‘šŸ¾

She originally went into foster care to slim down a little and have her meals more closely monitored. She definitely succeeded! Silkee is looking absolutely snatched. šŸ’ƒ She's back to cleaning her own butt 😻

During her time in foster, we also discovered that she experiences flare-ups of what appeared to be IBS. After ultrasounds and testing, vets let us know that these symptoms could instead potentially be cancer - but the only way to know for sure would be through a biopsy. Since that procedure could cause scar tissue and worsen her tummy troubles, we’ve chosen not to put her through it. Treatment would be the same, and it just doesn't feel fair to have her undergo surgery and additional discomfort just for us to know for sure.

Instead, we’ve decided what’s best for Silkee is to continue living her best life in foster care with one of our amazing purristas. There, she’s thriving, comfortable, and receiving ongoing care - including steroids and a specialized diet - thanks to the support of our rescue partner, Leon County Humane Society. Plus - we still get updates and photos 🄰

It’s a little bittersweet that she won’t be returning to the cafĆ©, but we’re celebrating the fact that she’s safe, happy, and loved. šŸ’–

Please join us in wishing Queen Silkee a long and cozy retirement. She’s earned it! šŸ‘‘āœØ

Since we know that Silkee will likely need ongoing care and may have additional needs down the line along with her special diet and steroids, we're also asking that you consider making a donation towards Leon County Humane Society through this post or their website at www.leoncountyhumane.org/donate

Your support helps not only Silkee, but hundreds of animals in our community annually receive everything they need to stay healthy and happy.

All of the cats who live at Tally Cat Cafe reside there until they get adopted - unless they aren't thriving at the cafe. It doesn't happen too often, but Selina is almost 8 years old, and the timing of kitten season means we have a lot of kittens and teens racing around the room with COMPLETE DISREGARD for Selina's regal requirements and expectations.

She doesn't ask for much, just for her special chair to remain untouched by kittens, for them to give a berth of about 3 feet around her in all directions and at all times, and if anything cool or fun exists, like the cat wheel or a concrete pad, that's for HER, not for any stinky kittens.

Unfortunately, the kittens are unable to accommodate her requests, leaving her to scream, swipe at them, and generally paint her to be a mean cat when really, she's a sweet, good natured, playful, loving girl. We want the cafe to be a space where potential adopters can get to know what a cat will be like in a home, but for Selina, all the hustle and bustle wasn't allowing her true personality to shine through.

This morning, we moved Selina back over to our rescue partner, Leon County Humane Society to one of their smaller cat rooms with only other adults. She'll likely be more relaxed there, and if by some miracle this gorgeous cat is still up for adoption when kitten season slows down, we'll look into moving her back in.

In the meantime, if you want to visit or adopt her, just submit an adoption application. Applying to adopt doesn't mean you're 100% committed to taking her home, it just lets LCHS reach out to you to set up a time for you to come visit and discuss, ask any questions you might have, and see if it's a good fit.

If you met her at the cafe and she seemed a little spicy, consider meeting her at our rescue partner so she can shine.

We were hoping to be celebrating National Kitten Day yesterday with joyful photos and purrs - but instead, we faced one of the hardest parts of rescue.

When we arrived in the morning, one of our adult cats, Juno, who normally is under-foot and screaming, didn’t come out for breakfast. We found her in her hidey hole, with one pupil dilated and her breathing labored. She was clearly in pain. We immediately contacted our vet partners at Paws & Claws Veterinary Hospital, who told us to bring her in right away.

At first, we were almost hopeful this was an injury - a clumsy leap gone wrong. After she was given pain meds and an x-ray was taken, we saw something far more serious: her lungs were severely compromised, with less than a quarter of a single lung functioning.

The damage didn’t look like trauma. It resembled cancer, a serious viral infection, or possibly FIP - a mutation of a common virus that can present with fluid in the abdomen/lungs or neurological symptoms. Juno had just been playing happily the night before, and her bloodwork didn’t match typical signs of FIP. Despite a full panel of tests, we had no clear answers - just mounting worry and heartbreak.

Juno was peacefully euthanized after testing. Her prognosis after reviewing tests was guarded at best, and we were fearing respiratory failure and knew she deserved peace. She passed gently, surrounded by love, and licking a Churu treat on her way out of this world.

We’re sharing this not to make you sad or scare you, but because we believe in transparency. Our community trusts us, and we trust you to understand that even with all the protocols we follow - vaccines, testing, deworming, quarantine, and regular vet care - rescue work still carries risks. We didn’t feel like we could reopen without an answer.

To be safe, we closed the cafƩ immediately, canceled all appointments, and evaluated every other cat in our care. All were healthy. That night, Dr. Zanca, the incredible vet who saw Juno, stayed late to perform a necropsy (an animal autopsy). What she found was both heartbreaking and relieving.

Juno had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia - a hidden defect that allowed abdominal organs to enter her chest and impair her lung development. This had likely been present her whole life but worsened suddenly, possibly due to play, weight gain, or even just time. The neurological signs were likely due to sepsis. There was nothing we could have done to prevent it, but we are grateful it wasn’t something contagious that could affect the other cats.

Her sister, May, will receive a full evaluation to check for signs of the same issue.

We are open again today, with heavy hearts but full confidence in the health and safety of our other cats and guests.

Thank you to our amazing rescue partner, Leon County Humane Society, for sparing no effort in giving every animal the best care and best chance possible.

Juno, you were so loved. Thank you for spending your final days with us. We will make sure your sister May has the best life.

Our rescue partner, Leon County Humane Society, has 10 days remaining in their Paw Prints Calendar Contest Fundraiser!

THEIR GOAL is to raise $40,000 for their mission to Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Educate (and keep the cafe fully stocked on fully vetted cats and kittens,) but we have a different goal for the Calendar Contest.

OUR GOAL is to have as many cats as possible featured on the 2026 Calendar by making sure that the Top 13 (Cover and Monthly Models,) isn't full of dogs.

The 2025 Paw Prints Calendar was filled with beautiful pets photographed by Black & Hue Photography, and we LOVE the calendar, but... there were only 2 cats. A cat did come in first place last year, but we just feel that we, as cat people, can do better. 😼

This year is looking VERY promising for cat lovers, with 5 out of the current top 13 being cats! Including Alumni Linus "The Purr Machine" Zirps and Pixie! A little further down we have Margot, (fka Jazzy Bell) and Custard!

Help support the kitties! See all entered cats, guinea pigs, miniature horses, snakes... and dogs at www.gogophotocontest.com/leoncountyhumanesociety

You should also plan to attend their Calendar Contest Countdown Party at Proof Brewing Company on Monday, June 30th!

Pictured is Schroeder (Linus' brother and last year's first place winner!)

Is she grooming me because it’s how cats bond with one another and people are just big cats to her because she’s the most lovely little angel who has quickly become one of our all time favorite cats or is it because she’s having a little taste before she decides to have me for dinner?

It’s the first one — but we’re watching you, Magnolia.

We would LOVE to see some Tally Cat Cafe Alumni join the Paw Prints Calendar Contest!

So far, we recognize Linus and Pixie ( 😽😽 ) who are doing AMAZING!

We know there’s 1,800+ cats who deserve the calendar fame, and there can only be 13 photographed by Black & Hue Photography and featured in the 2026 Calendar, BUT the 2025 Calendar had 11 dogs and 2 cats, so I just feel like we, as cat lovers, can do better this year 😼

Each vote is $1, there’s a $10 entry fee that counts towards your votes, and every dollar raised helps our rescue partner save more animals!

Even if you don’t enter or vote, consider going to www.gogophotocontest.com/leoncountyhumanesociety to look at all of the entered pets, and share your favorite entry to help spread the word!

About Us

Tally Cat CafĆ© is Tallahassee’s Purr-mier Cat Lounge and Coffee Bar. From our original announcement in May 2017 to opening a year later in May 2018, we set out to achieve the goal of providing a comfortable and cozy atmosphere for cats to acclimate with each other and people as they await their fur-ever homes. The cafĆ© is fully equipped to serve beverages including coffee, espresso, and cold brew from Lucky Goat Coffee. For a full view of our menu, visit www.tallycatcafe.com/menu. Additionally, we serve baked goods from local bakeries such as Tasty Pastry and Donut Kingdom, as well as vegan and gluten free options from Vegan Vybz.

Our cats come fully vetted, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, tested for FIV and Feline Leukemia, and spayed or neutered through Leon County Humane Society. Adoptions can happen on site at Tally Cat CafƩ, with adoption applications available to be filled out ahead of time at https://www.leoncountyhumane.org/adopt/adoption-process/adoption-application/, or here at the cafƩ if a kitty steals your heart during your visit.

The Cat Lounge has limited occupancy for the safety and happiness of the kitties and their visitors. Walk-ins are accepted based on availability and appointments can be made at www.tallycatcafe.com/book-an-appointment. Appointments last an hour and begin at the top of every hour. We highly recommend booking an appointment in advance especially on weekends to ensure a spot in the room!
