You might notice we’re at max cat-pacity for a bit, and we aren’t complaining! Thank you to our rescue partner for going above and beyond for the cats in your care ❤️🫡
**Office Updates**
It's been an incredibly rough summer.
You may have noticed that our office has been closed to unplanned and unexpected visitors, that our phones are off and we're responding to voicemails and emails as we're able.
If you stopped by to drop off much appreciated supplies, you may have noticed the many signs posted to our door begging visitors to stop and read a warning about a deadly virus before entering. We were hit hard this summer with Panleukopenia, and it resurfaced several times - often right as we started to look forward to being out of the quarantine.
Just as we were starting to win the battle with that intense and fatal virus, Ringworm, a non-fatal but highly contagious fungal infection raced through our office, lengthening our quarantine yet again. We had hoped to reopen much sooner, and have battled not only Panleukopenia and ringworm, but a feeling of guilt for not being able to be as available to our community as we would prefer.
We wanted to reopen on several occasions, but we kept getting knocked back down just as we started to see the other side, and we knew keeping cats safe was most important. We committed to providing them the care they needed, and unfortunately, this was what they needed.
While we've been closed, we've been deep cleaning our isolation spaces daily, providing supportive care to cats who need it, doing vet runs, treating those who had ringworm spots and dipping those who were potentially exposed to prevent further spread.
We've had to mostly do this on our own, as a small staff of 6, because we didn't want to endanger any of our volunteers' pets during this time. Our cleaning protocols required strict adherence to a lengthy cleaning method, and limiting exposure meant limiting the number of people in the building, meaning that all of our staff's focus has had to be redirected to this effort. We miss our volunteers and are more grateful than ever for their daily help and support.
We are tired, but proud of our survivors, and looking forward to reopening our office fully on September 10th.
We truly appreciate your patience and support during the last couple of months, and we want you to know that your patience and support helped us save lives that would have never made it otherwise. Panleukopenia is usually a death sentence in shelters and rescue, and on a smaller scale, ringworm can be too - just because of how difficult it is to contain and treat.
Big thank you also goes out to our cat and kitten fosters, who kept their fosters for longer than we would normally ask since our office was not an option for them to return to. Our cat/kitten fosters' patience and commitment to their care and safety has made all the difference, and we truly could not have made it through without their willingness to help us contain this outbreak.
If you've been waiting to visit our kitties and adopt, please consider stopping by our BOGO Kitten Adoption Event this weekend! We miss you and would love to see you.
We have more events upcoming, and we're looking forward to things returning to normal!
