Autumn stillness on the farm 🍂🍃 Days like today remind us to take a moment to pause, take a deep breath, and to reflect on our gratitude for this Earth, for work that allows us to spend every day outside with nature and to share food with our community. The season is quickly coming to an end, and it’s easy to let it pass by without appreciating the joy of growing produce that nourishes our friends and neighbors.
You have one last chance to visit us at Tallmadge farmers market this Thursday, October 12th, from 4:00-7:00pm. Then come celebrate the season with us this Saturday, October 14th at our Harvest Festival! Public farm tour starts at 4:00pm and live music will begin at 6:00pm. Fun times on the farm!

This summer has been HOT and DRY!
As a regenerative farm, one of our primary goals is to create healthy soil that has the capacity to retain water. We foster a healthy soil biology by minimizing soil disturbance and keeping the soil covered with mulch and living plants. The resulting environment is naturally able to hold more water.
That being said, a summer with a lack of rainfall is always a challenge. All plants need a regular source of water to stay healthy and may go to seed quicker or die off completely if left in conditions that are too dry. Here’s a look at our irrigation system:
We use a combination of wobbler irrigation (the sprinklers you see here) for plants that don’t mind having wet leaves, and drip irrigation for more sensitive crops. Our permanent irrigation system is controlled by a frost free hydrant near our barn.
We are fortunate to have this infrastructure, but irrigation is still time consuming and regular rainfall is appreciated! We are hoping to improve this system and extend it into our new production area by revamping our irrigation in the coming months!

New video—a helpful trick for separating garlic bulbs into individual cloves without hurting your fingers! 🧄👏 We always love planting garlic in the fall, but getting the cloves ready to plant can be pretty time consuming and tedious. This trick can definitely help speed things up and ease the burden on your hands!
We’re going to be planting in early November this year instead of October because the warm weather last year made our garlic sprout really early, before winter even began! 😱 We’re learning and adapting to this changing climate, and hopefully this year’s planting will go better. 🙏
How do you separate your garlic cloves? Give this a try and let us know how it works for you! ☺️

ABSOLUTELY. GORGEOUS!!! 🌱☀️We love cover crops growing and blowing in the wind! We love watching the farm fill out before our eyes! In this video, the field immediately outside the deer fence is where we’ll be building more beds in the next few weeks, but for now, it’s filled with our lovely cover crop friends who are helping to heal and prepare the land. It’s very compacted on the farm because this space was formerly a horse pasture. Horses are great, but not necessarily for farmland! At any rate, we’re so glad to watch the farm grow and transform every day—but especially on beautiful days like today. 🌞
