Day One — Ground Zero
This is our Day One progress video. I recently decided that I need a challenge, so me and Kodiak are going to start working on competition obedience. We have a TON of work to do in the area of focus, eye contact, and control.
I have not taught anything with competition standards in mind. However, what I have done is built an excellent relationship with Kodiak and a very solid foundation. With time and consistency, we will be in the ring. It’s never too late!
Will post videos as we make progress.
Working on Leash Guidance with sweet Pee Wee!
This drill helps Pee Wee understand what the pressure of the leash means. Right now, she naturally resists the pressure, running without a care, in the direction of wherever she wants.
This is the first step in shaping a loose-leash walk! I begin by allowing her to walk away from me, I call her name and apply some pressure to guide her back to me. When she follows the leash, I mark and reward her. Over time, I will reel her closer in to the heel position, raising the criteria.
Pairing these sessions with a purposeful walking drill will have her walking next to her owner, rather than dragging her down the sidewalk!
