2024 Year in Review: Hank's Bark Box

As we look back on 2024, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the extraordinary outpouring of support from our community. As of yesterday, Hank's Bark Box has proudly provided a staggering 104,633 pounds (52.31 tons) of dog and cat food to families in need since our beginning over 3 years ago. This incredible milestone reflects the heart and dedication of every individual, family, and business that has contributed to our mission of ensuring pets remain cared for, loved, and in their homes.
This year brought significant changes and challenges. One major milestone was the construction and installation of a new box to replace the original one. This upgrade ensures Hank's Bark Box can continue to serve our community with improved capacity and accessibility.

The hurricanes Helene and Milton devastated our surrounding communities this year, leaving countless families without homes, cars, and belongings. Amid the wreckage, many faced the heart-wrenching challenge of caring for their beloved pets during a time of immense loss.

In this time of crisis, our community rallied like never before. Together, we provided not only record amounts of food but also essential supplies, including leashes, collars, bowls, litter pans, toys, and litter. Your generosity helped lighten the burden for so many, removing at least one worry from the shoulders of those who had already lost so much.

Since these storms, the need for Hank’s Bark Box has nearly doubled, with many families still grappling with the aftermath. Businesses, particularly those in the hospitality industry, were destroyed, leaving countless individuals out of work and in desperate need of help. Your support has been a beacon of hope during these trying times.

I know I’ve said this time and time again but NONE of this would have been possible without YOU. Your unselfish donations of food, supplies, and time have ensured that pets do not go hungry and remain with the families who love them. By coming together, we have kept countless pets out of shelters and in their homes, offering stability and comfort to both pets and their humans during some of the darkest days.

As we close out 2024, we are reminded of the profound impact that a caring community can make. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us, for showing up when it mattered most, and for being the lifeline that so many families and their pets needed.

Here’s to continuing this mission together in 2025 and beyond.

Tampa Bay area foster needed for this 13 y.o. male beagle. He has a foster in the Panhandle for a week or so, but needs to come to the Tampa Bay area asap for vetting.

Tomorrow, Rusty & I head home from this pupsit here in St Pete with Slowbro and Waffles, a pair of sweet, elderly Italian Greyhounds.
It went winter last night...was 61 when we got up..BURRRR.
Being a tree hugging hippy, I'm trying to avoid turning the heat on. (Must rem to bring my tiny lil space heater.)
Rusty & Waffles have gotten pretty friendly. They figured out a fix for the artic tundra conditions. 🥶

Rusty and I are experienced and reliable Pup/House sitters, with multiple repeat clients and years of experience. We've made pup & hooman friends all over Tampa Bay.
Rusty and I will come over to meet you and your pups before your trip to make sure everyone is happy (Rusty is non reactive), and you can show me all the things I need to know, and we’ll spend a few minutes getting to know your pups so they will recognize us when we come back to sit them.
When you leave for your trip, we will stay in your home, where your pups are relaxed & comfy, have their own beds, bowls, and toys.
Per your instructions, I'll feed, walk daily, & give treats and any meds (including injections), and thoroughly spoil them until you get home.
I'm retired, so I'll be with your furbabies all day & night.
I'll take care of the house. Check the mail, water the plants, etc.
⌚ Rusty will be 13 in Jan, so we'll be retiring after the holidaze. ⌚

It’s almost that time! We have lots of beagles waiting to come in to the rescue so we are looking forward to a successful adoption event this week. We hope to see you there!❤️🐶❤️

Gotta say, Hillsborough County Health Dept knows how to run an emergency shelter!
Martin & I, along with my pup, Rusty, and Martin's kitties Marge & π (Pie) were treated very well at Erwin Technical Center for 2 nights. They had comfortable cots, we were well fed 3x/day. They had coffee, tea, & lemonade, which . They supplied dog/cat food if you didn't bring your own.
With the beetus, we went to a medical shelter. There were plenty of friendly & professional staff taking care of every need.
Well done, Hillsborough County FL & State of Florida!

We're waiting to get word roads are clear before heading to Martin's, but I had to break Rusty out of prison now.
He and I are waiting outside.he is smiling. Makes me feel better.

Checking in from the shelter. Martin & I perfectly fine. There's elect (suspect generators, I haven't done much recon yet.)
We can't see Rusty, Marge & π until 8.
