Our very own Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Christopher Smith, was featured doing what he loves — giving animals a chance at survival. You’ll see him doing exactly that on Wildlife Nation with Jeff Corwin (airing on ABC at 9 a.m. ET following Good Morning America) as the primary veterinarian for multiple State/Federal agencies working to control the invasive Burmese Python population.
"As an advocate for wildlife and animal health, the greatest impact I can make is to provide native animals with a better chance at survival," says Smith. Our amazing colleague, Danielle Martinez (Practice Manager), has been reflecting on three simple questions at the end of each day for 25 years. “I find setting and achieving goals becomes more attainable when it is practiced daily. For over 25 years I have asked myself 3 reflective questions at the end of everyday to assess my personal performance and set goals to increase my growth and development as a leader. On my drive home from work, I turn off the radio, put my phone in my middle console and ask myself the following 3 questions; "What went well? What could have gone better? What will I do differently next time?". I have the kind of conversation with myself that I would have with an employee I want to inspire to achieve more. Starting with "What went well?" puts me in a positive mindset. I celebrate the positive impacts I made on my staff, our clients and our business. Then I ask, "What could have gone better?" and am honest without being critical. It is important to be very honest about my performance, because I cannot change what I don't acknowledge. Being critical, however, typically leads to negative thinking which can impede my progress. I think about all of the things that could have gone better and my personal responsibility in those situations. Then I end with "What will I do differently next time?". By thinking first about my personal responsibility in anything that could have gone better, I put myself in the perfect mindset to realize what I need to do next time for a more positive outcome.”
