🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

Scammers are targeting pet owners searching for their lost pets, posing as staff from the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB). They spoof our phone number and even mimic parts of our voicemail, falsely claiming they have your pet and that it needs emergency surgery. They then pressure victims to send money immediately via PayPal or other payment methods. THERE HAVE BEEN VICTIMS ALREADY, AND IT IS RAMPING UP!

⚠️ HSTB will NEVER call demanding payment for lost pets or emergency surgery.

Stay vigilant! If you receive a suspicious call, do not send money—report it to authorities. Help us spread the word! 🐾

THE COUNTDOWN IS ON 🥳 We're less than two weeks away from Bark in the Park! Join us on February 8th at Curtis Hixon Park from 11a-3p for our annual festival! We'll have dozens of vendors, food and drinks, a Kid Zone, and activities for the dogs! This event helps HSTB raise funds for the animals' medical care, food, shelter, and more. We will also have adoptable dogs! Come by with your friends, family, and dogs for some fun!

TEST DRIVE TO LOVE ❤ At HSTB we believe finding the right match is key, that is why we offer a test drive! One success story is of October, renamed Snoopy 🐾
After a long stay at the shelter, October (now Snoopy) finally found her perfect home! 🐾 She went on a test drive in January and met her new family, including her playful younger dog brother, Sam. In just a short visit, Snoopy's shy personality transformed—she opened up like never before!

Her new family reports she’s thriving: inseparable from Sam, gentle with their cat, and even great with the neighborhood kids. Leaving the shelter has helped her truly shine.

BART THE ZOMBIE CAT... 10 YEARS LATER 🐾 Bart and his family wrote into us to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Bart, the Zombie Cat, being brought to HSTB! They wrote:

Dear Humane Society of Tampa Bay and fans,

It’s hard to believe but today marks 10 years, to the day, since I arrived at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay’s animal hospital in dire condition. You saved my life in so many ways: from surgeries, feeding tubes, blood transfusions and lots of tender loving care to fighting a legal battle so that I did not have to return to those who buried me. Little did they know I would not give up without a fight and would still be here 10-years later.

I am eternally grateful to everyone who helped make my long journey to recovery possible. I promise I don’t take my second chance lightly, I love life and make the most of it each and every day. I just may be the happiest cat ever and I have all of you to thank for that! In honor of all your heroic efforts a donation has been made to your Save a Pet fund to help other animals in need.

TWO BROKEN HEARTS EQUALS ONE WHOLE ONE ❤ We are absolutely thrilled to share the BEST news—Cinnamon has been adopted! 🎊 His new family heard his story and rushed in because they recently lost one of their beloved bunnies. Their remaining bunny was also feeling lonely and had a broken heart. It was a perfect match for everyone!

Cinnamon is already settling into his new life as a free-roaming bunny where he’ll have plenty of space to hop, explore, and rediscover joy. His new family is showering him with love, cuddles, and the companionship he’s been longing for. He’s even making friends with his new bunny sibling!

Thank you to everyone who shared Cinnamon’s story, sent kind words, and helped him find his perfect forever home. This sweet boy now has the love and happiness he so deeply deserves. 🥰 Here’s to Cinnamon getting his hop back!

UPDATE: CINNAMON IS BEING ADOPTED! HEARTBROKEN AND NEEDS YOU 💔 Cinnamon is a 6-year-old Rex rabbit with the kindest heart and the softest fur you'll ever touch! This sweet boy has had a tough journey—he was surrendered to us after his previous owners couldn’t give him the time he needed. He also recently lost his bonded partner and is feeling very lonely 😭

Despite everything he’s been through, Cinnamon remains incredibly loving and gentle. He has some scarring on his ears from a previous attack and is blind in one eye, but don’t let that fool you—he's a cuddler who loves being picked up and snuggled.

If you’ve ever dreamed of having a bunny that thrives on affection and brings joy to your life, Cinnamon is your perfect match. He’s looking for a quiet, loving home where he can finally feel safe and cherished. Let's find Cinnamon his forever home!!

KAIRO 💔 8-week-old Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix with a big heart and a strong will to survive. He arrived at our animal hospital hypoglycemic, weighing less than a pound, unable to lift his head or walk, with a blood sugar level of just 40. His owner, faced with the overwhelming cost of care for six dogs, made the decision to surrender him.

Thanks to your support, we’re providing free spay surgery for Kairo’s mom and vaccinations for all five dogs at home.

Today, Kairo is making incredible progress! He’s eating and drinking on his own, lifting his head, walking, and his blood sugar is up to 206. He’s in foster care now, getting stronger each day, but is not yet available for adoption.

We’ll keep you updated on this little fighter’s journey—thank you for being part of a community that gives pets like Kairo a second chance.

How can you help? Adopt! If you, or someone you know, is looking for a new dog best friend, please check out our website or come into the shelter. All dogs available for adoption for over 30 days are FREE to adopt!
