With the local storm approaching -

Prepare an emergency kit
Include enough food and water for at least a week, food and water bowls, a first aid kit, p*e pads, litter boxes, p**p bags, paper towels, medications, medical records, contact information for your veterinarian, toys, treats, a leash and collar with ID tags, copies of your pet's registration information, and grooming items. You can also include a traveling bag, crate, or sturdy carrier.
Bring pets indoors
As soon as you hear a warning or sign of a storm, bring your pets inside. If you need to shelter in a hallway or bathroom, keep your pet in a crate so you know they're safe and where they are.
Consider evacuation
If you live in an area at risk of storm surge, you might need to evacuate. You can contact your local emergency management agency for information about pet-friendly emergency shelters. Some shelters might require advance notice, so you should try to call before you go. Your local humane society or veterinary hospital might also have information.
Keep pets in carriers or crates
When you're sheltering in place, keep your pets in their carriers or crates.
Use a kiddie pool as a potty area
If you're riding out the hurricane with your dog indoors, you can use a retrofitted kiddie pool as a potty area.
Check your pet after the storm
Look for signs that your pet needs medical attention, and make an appointment with a veterinarian if you're concerned.
