From slavery to Agriculture legend.
George Washington Carver was born into slavery sometime in 1864 and would rise to become one of the most famous scientists of the 20th century. He would be courted by many world leaders and top brass for his expertise in agricultural production. This included the likes of Ghandi, Joseph Stallin, Henry Ford, Teddy Roosevelt and more. Above all George kept a lot of his focus and passion on strategizing and teaching the newly freed Black farmers and students at Tuskegee institute on how to improve sustainability, save cost, and boost crop yields. Known by the endearing term of “peanut man” Carver would bring to light dozens of recipes, uses, and growing techniques for staple crops such as sweet potatoes and peanuts. Some uses he would create include a rubber alternative, lubricants, flour, resins, and gums all derived from the peanut. Carver was truly a legend of not only sustainable agriculture, but also cost saving and scientific ingenuity. We celebrate and are inspired by this African American Legend.
