Have you heard of Capybara Cafes?
If Iâm not mistaken, Capybara Cafes have originated in Japan in the early 2000s. And have mostly recently made their way to North America! Capy B Cafe opened June 21 of 2023 in Vancouver, Canada!
Capybaras are the worldâs largest rodents, closely related to Guinea pigs! They have such cute, laid back personalities which make them perfect for a zen experience! Capybaras are one of the most friendly docile animals, which is why these cafes have become so trendy!
Japan has had wide success with animal themed cafes, from cat cafes to owl cafes, so why not capybaras!! We have our own capybara cafe right here at Underground Reptiles! Just listen to those crunches!!
What other animals do you guys think a capybara is a mix of?đ€Ł

Our very first Bengal Kitty!
Funny story!! The first clip is when we were certain she was super preg!! Everyday Pete would go out and feed the mom & dad, he never noticed the baby or tiny cries! Momma did such a good job protecting her own that we didnât even know Baby Tiny Stripe came into the world!!
The carrier is what mom came to us in & we always left it with her so she would have a piece of home! And we instantly found baby Tiny Stripe safely inside!
As you can tell by our shrieks it was a joyous moment for us all! Weâre super proud of mom & her first baby!!!
Perfect post in light of Motherâs Day!

Our photographerđ„ - White Wolf Spider
There are over 200 different types of Wolf Spider, shown above is the White Wolf Spider! Primarily found in dense forests in the United States. These are agile and opportunistic hunters with excellent eyesight! Wolf Spiders have eight eyes arranged in 3 rows (shown above)! The bottom row of eyes consists of 4 small eyes, middle and top rows have 2 large eyes. Most other arachnids have poor vision, but Wolf Spiders possess the third best eyesight of all spider groups.
Feeding on mostly small insects, such as crickets, waxworms, and mealworms. As babies they can feed off small fruit flies. This species of spider is a ground spider, meaning they are nocturnal active hunters that use burrows as shelters during the day.
Did you know Wolf Spider make tripwire webs? When something walks over the web, the spider feels it. They will slowly uncover themselves, stalking their prey before attacking! Wolf Spiders have venom, but only enough to paralyze a small insect! If you have ever got bitten by a wolf spider, then you know it only feels like a bee sting with swelling, mild pain, and itching! They like to live in solitude, hunt alone, and donât usually spin webs!
Wolf Spiders play an important role in the natural control of insects and are known as âbeneficial bugsâ in farms and gardens! Would you keep one?

Isopods are often underappreciated but are vital components of bioactive enclosures! From waste decomposition to pest control, they are essential to creating an ecological balance within the substrate layers. Isopods are known for their ability to break down organic matter and improve soil quality. Isopods consume decaying plant matter, dead insects, and animal waste that can lead to foul odors and the growth of harmful bacteria. Waste does not accumulate, maintaining a clean and healthy environment for plants and other inhabitants of the enclosure!
Isopods provide several benefits for plants! By contributing to the nutrient cycle and improving soil quality, isopods promote overall health and vitality of the plants within the enclosure. Isopods help to recycle nutrients, while also aiding in soil aeration by burrowing which improves root development and nutrient absorption. As they are constantly moving and growing, isopods help to break up compacted soil, creating more plant growth!
Another benefit to isopods is pest control. Isopods feed on pest eggs, larvae, and even tiny pests! This natural form of pest control can reduce the need for harmful chemical pesticides.
Did you know that Isopods are actually crustaceans, not insects? They have been around since the time of dinosaurs and can be found anywhere in the world, from the ocean floor to the desert. They can be found in a variety of colors and patterns and range from 2mm to 20mm.
Shown In The Video:
P. Laevis Dairy Cow/Orange/White/Milkback/Gray - Laevis are larger isopods that also like protein. They need some humidity. They are hardy, reproduce quickly, and great cleaners!
Armadillidium Vulgare (Gem Mix) - Armadillidium species prefer a 50/50 arid and humid environment. They are peaceful, slower moving, and they are slower to reproduce. If you donât need a heavy-duty cleaner, they are an excellent choice.

Camel Spider Vs. Cricketđ€
The camel spider, despite its name, is not actually a spider or scorpion! With its own order, called Solifugae (over 1,000 species), which is Latin for âthose who flee from the sun.â Solifugae lack the pedicel which occurs in spiders in order to spin webs, as well as spinnerets and silk!
Although they appear to have 10 legs, they actually have 8! The 2 extra âlegsâ are sensory organs called pedipalps. Camel Spider can reach up to 6 inches in leg span, not nearly as big as the media portrays! Their jaws can take up 1/3 of the camel spiderâs body, called chelicerae. When they eat, their chelicerae move against each other in a fascinating way, shown above, dorsal view and side view! Their jaws are their primary weapon, by chopping or sawing the bodies of their prey with their jaws. The body of the Solifugae has 2 main segments, the cephalothorax and the opisthosoma (10 segmented abdomen) allowing them to consume a large amount of food.
Camel spiders are most commonly found in Middle Eastern deserts but can also be found in the southwestern United States and Mexico. This is a nocturnal species and carnivorous, but not venomous like most people think! There have been so many myths from throughout the years, which is why these spiders may have you skeptical!
Camel Spider Myths:
1. Camel Spiders run after humans! FALSE â It may appear as though a camel spider is chasing you, but itâs really chasing your shadow! Hence their latin meaning, they are fleeing from the sun and just want to be in the shade!
2. Camel Spiders can disembowel a camel! FALSE â This is probably where the Camel Spiderâs name comes from, they can be found underneath camels, but again, only for shade!
3. Camel Spiders can jump up to 3 feet! FALSE â The fastest Camel Spider recorded clocks in around 10 mph, but they do not do any jumping!
